Hey there! I know I am super late with the reply, for some reason your question slipped through the net and I just saw it while answering another one. Anyway, I wanted to quickly mention that it´s very, very similar. In a way you will feel right at home at the track if you´ve driven it in VR. But in another way, you will experience it for the first time. What I mean by that is the aspect of g-forces. Corners and compressions that you happily took flat out are suddenly a challenge when you´re pressed into the seat etc. You get a new perspective and a new respect for certain parts of the track.

Sehr interessanter Kanal, sinnvolle Veränderungen und das noch top dokumentiert - weiter so! Auf KZbin ist es leider nicht mehr so einfach eine "private Nachricht" zu schreiben, von daher wähle ich diesen Weg. Eines noch vorab, ich fahre ebenfalls einen W204 C63 aus 02-2011, der optisch und technisch im Detail verbessert wurde. - Wer hat dir die Abstimmung auf die Friedrich Fächerkrümmer gemacht? Das Fahrzeug geht den Videos nach wirklich sehr eindrucksvoll (wenngleich ich die 7.7s von 100-200 für etwas optimistisch halte ; korrigiert wären ~ 8s realistisch ). - Wurde am Fahrzeug gewichtstechnisch etwas verändert? Die Recaro PP sind ja aktuell nicht mehr verbaut. Warum? - Du hast ja laut Liste auch den größeren Ölkühler verbaut. Hast du bereits die "neue" Variante mit Luftführung? Deine Temperaturwerte auf der Nordschleife sind ja immer noch recht hoch. Ich hätte gehofft, dass die Temperatur nicht über 120 - 125°C ansteigt. Die Werte klettern ja immer noch auf fast 130° - und das bei humanen Aussentemperaturen. PS: Besseres Öl (Motul X-Cess 5W-40 mit Freigabe oder Mobil 1 5W-50 ohne Freigabe) würden sicherlich noch etwas helfen! - Sind die Öltemperaturen nach Einbau der Fächerkrümmer eigentlich gestiegen oder leicht gesunken? Theoretisch müsste der C63 ja dadurch profitieren, dass nur noch zwei Kats der Hitze des Abgasstroms im Wege stehen (weniger Stauwärme) ... Sorry für die vielen Fragen ... Ich bin gerade u.a. auch am Grübeln, ob ich die Abgasanlage in der Hinsicht noch optimieren soll. Grüße aus Ba-Wü, Daniel

Hi Daniel und danke dir für den netten Kommentar! Ich werde mal hier auf alle Punkte eingehen: Die Abstimmung wurde hier gemacht: k-t-h.de/ Ich kann diese Firma absolut uneingeschränkt empfehlen! Gewichtstechnisch bin ich jetzt vielleicht noch bei -40 KG, wenn überhaupt. Ich musste wegen TÜV einiges wieder einbauen, aber bin nach wie vor an dem Thema dran. Ich möchte mindestens 100 KG aus dem Fahrzeug holen. In Sachen der neuen Luftführung bin ich mir nicht sicher. Ich hätte mir auch eine maximal Temperatur von 125 gewünscht. Allerdings ist das schon deutlich besser als Serie, trotz der Mehrleistung. Es wird aber noch mehr an der Kühlung gearbeitet werden müssen, nicht nur Motor sonder auch Getriebe, das ist sehr heiss geworden auf der Rennstrecke. Guter Tipp mit dem Öl! Ich nehme schon immer hochwertiges Castrol, aber vielleicht kann ich das noch optimieren. Die Fächerkrümmer sind zusammen mit dem größeren Öhlkühler gekommen, von daher habe ich keinen guten Vergleich. Auf der Straße komme ich aber nie über 115, selbst bei sportlicher Fahrweise. Viel Spaß mit deinem Auto!!

Vielen Dank für dein ausführliches Feedback. Du kannst ja relativ leicht überprüfen, ob vor dem Ölkühler eine Luftführung (wie ein Trichter) angebracht ist oder der Kühler „blank“ und frei zu sehen ist. Mein großer Kühler ist noch aus erster Generation, daher leider ohne Halterung für eine Luftführung. Ich werde demnächst die aktuelle Generation mit passender Luftführung verbauen um hoffentlich dadurch die Temperaturen etwas zu senken.

@@TheExtraMile Vielleicht habe ich mich etwas unglücklich ausgedrückt. Der werksseitige Ölkühler - unabhängig vom Baujahr - ist beim W204 C63 immer mit einer Luftführung versehen. Der größere Ölkühler aus dem Aftermarket wurde in der ersten Generation leider ohne Vorbereitung für eine Luftführung ausgeliefert. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde der große Kühler durch den Hersteller weiter verbessert und mit 4 Anschraubvorrichtungen für eine Luftführung ausgestattet. Die Luftführung soll die Temperaturen nochmals senken (die Luft kann praktisch nicht mehr links, rechts, oben, unten am Kühler vorbei, sondern wird praktisch durch den Kühler gezwungen - Wirkungsgrad optimiert ...) Hey Alex, I have a question. I’m planning to be moving to Germany in the next few months and I’m curious how your exhaust laws are in terms of emissions and sound. I want to get some headers installed in the C63 but I’m worried about getting it through customs with a modified exhaust. Should I just leave it stock until I get there? Also what are the laws once it’s in the country. I’d love to straight pipe it; is that not possible or will I need to get sport cats and all that stuff? Thanks in advance!

Hey there Dan!! First of all welcome :) So the basics about tuning cars in germany is about not getting caught by the cops... just kidding There are parts available that come with a certificate that makes them road legal (called "ABE", which roughly translates to "general permission of use" or something) so I would advise you to stick to those since you won´t have any problems with them. Then there are parts that you come with a different certificate, that doesn´t automatically make them road legal, but you can have them installed in a shop and then a guy from the "TÜV" has to come and check the install and then that guy will certify that they´re road legal. You will basically have to check the parts that you´re buying and check that they either are already road legal in germany or can be made road legal. For some parts (suspension, mild exhaust, strut bars, etc.) that is pretty easy. For others (carbon fiber hood, headers) it can be a bit tricky. I would generally advise to buy parts through a shop that will deal with all of that for you. It´s a bit of a pain in the ass, but it´s the easiest way. Let me know when you want to drive to the nordschleife or another trackday and I will join you!

I’m thinking best case scenario, the c63 will get into the country around October. Then just have to find a good day for weather to go. I’m still new to road coursing, only have 4 track days under my belt so far, so I’ll need really good conditions (no snow, rain, etc.). I’ll have a better idea in the next few months. I appreciate the hospitality! I’ll definitely need to follow you to learn the line on the track safely.

@@UltimateDan1 Oh yes definitely, you don´t want to drive the ring in the wet. I have never done that and I don´t plan to haha It´s a great experience to drive the real thing after having driven the virtual ring for so many years, you will love it. It will feel very familiar and surprisingly different at the same time since the g forces turn it into a whole different ballgame.

I finally got my first track day in on my C63 P31 and after about 12 minutes it overheats and goes into limp mode when it hits 142 Celsius. What did you do to improve your cooling system? I’m having difficulty finding information on this.

Hey there Dan! Holy shit it got to 142 degrees?? Must have been a curvy and relatively slow track for that to happen. Anyway, I got a different oil cooler with twice the capacity of the stock one. Max temp that I have seen on the ring was 129.

The Extra Mile Yes, I uploaded a video of one of my laps the other day. It was at Eagle’s Canyon in Texas. It’s actually one of the faster tracks here, I don’t think we have anything that compared to the Nurburgring but I’ll be moving to Germany in a few months so I definitely plan to track day there. Did you get the oil cooler that’s sold by a member on mbworld forums? From the looks of it, it looks like a very good solution. On the testing video of it on the Nurburgring I didn’t see the oil temp get above 100 C which is really good. The cooler is based on the black series cooler, but a bit larger.

Nice driving, but you should have let the Porsche past. He's on your tail because he wants to go. Once you could even see him indicate. Generally you just need to slow down and stay in your "lane" (as we know Nordschleife is recognised as 2 lanes on touristenfahrten), he won't overtake if you're on it, because that's dangerous.

All joking aside now, Alex - do you go into these events "prepared?" to maybe have to buy some new tires at some point down the road (pun intended ; ). I simply ask this, cos when I did my second "Advanced Driving Course" - I was still basically a learner that had no idea what I was doing. So I literally PLOWED!!! into the first few corners of the race track, understeering like crazy - till the instructor hopped into my car, and started to make me understand my mistakes. But given I was going at fairly high speeds still - I could kiss goodbye to my front left tyre (Australian for tire ; ) on that very day - as the track called CALDER mainly consisted of right hand turns...

Haha that is an awesome anecdote Michael! And yes I do prepare but it really is just checking the basics. Check oil level of the engine, check tread wear and tire pressure and that is pretty much it. What is almost more important than preparing the car though is getting to know the track! So whenever I do a a trackday on a track that I don´t know (like last year on the Salzburgring), I always make sure to drive it in a sim. That really helps with finding the rough brake and turn-in points and get a general feel of the track. I am much more confident on a track if I have driven it in a sim first. And lastly it´s about the mindset. It´s very, very easy to get overly excited and kind of throw caution to the wind. It´s easy to overestimate yourself or the car or the track conditions. There might have been a slight oil spill in some corners that you can´t even see, it might have drizzled a little bit before you arrived and the track might be a bit more slippery etc. So always, always familiarize yourself with the conditions of the day before you start to push a bit harder. Especially when it comes to tracks like the Nordschleife or Bathurst where there isn´t much room for error. Having fun is the point of going there but doing that safely is the main objective.

Thanks for the awesome Reply, Alex. One thing I found very interesting in the FIRST (Skid Control) course. Was the car I owned at the time, ran say between 30-34psi pressure. He asked us all to set it to 40psi before we arrived, as a lesson on how tire pressures alone, can have a big effect on grip levels...

@@SingleRacerSVR Interesting, so the idea was to lower the traction so it would be easier to slide? I had a tire pressure sensor on one car that I tracked during a drivers training event, and I am not sure how accurate that was, but it showed well over 40 psi (about 43 peak) after a hot lap. Pretty insane how much difference there is between a cold tire and a warm (or hot) one!

No Alex, actually not slide, but grip (well, maybe slide too in the wet road test ; ). You see, there were at that time 3 courses you could do in a row. (1). Traction Control - TICK / (2). The Advanced Driving Course - TICK / (& 3) A specialist course to get your Racing CAMS license, which was no point for me, due to not wanting / affording to ever race in real life. So given that it wasn't the SECOND course, or in other words - we were never going to ever drive fast enough to get the tires actually "hot / overheated" - he just wanted to show that at normal road speeds, you could get a lot more grip - then for those people that get into a very bad habit of letting their tires become "under-inflating", due to laziness.
