Been doing king pins 35+ years . I've never used a press . I always use a 5 pound hammer and a punch to drive them out. And a feeler gage for shims. 1/2 hour 45 minutes per side. I'll bet the previous repair they clocked the kingpin and drove the wedge bolt in to straighten it. Hence the mushrooming.

Very informative. I'm doing a king pin job ok my 2002 NPR right now. I got lucky and only needed a big punch and hammmer to get the pins out.

the next time i do this same process im going to use a torch. that looked so much easier. I used a dremel tool with a cut off wheel and made a channel that went partly around the inner cast bushing hole. as the bushing have a tendency to turn, cutting in an extra channel allows grease to flow into the bushings regardless.

I use the correct bushing driver to install the bushings and I've never had to hone them to fit. I specialize in npr trucks and I've done 23 kingpin jobs. This job is about impossible without the specialized tools

The best lubricant to use on tool threads like that press, pullers, installers is either moly (molydisulfide) lube or EP #2 grease. Both have very high lubricity and friction reducing qualities. Used on rod bolts, head studs, pushrod ends flat tappet style lifters, etc. Not to be confused with assembly lubes.

i usually use high pressure grease. that is not what tiger tool recommended.....they built it, i went with what they suggested.

Thanks great review and how to I’ve been avoiding buying one of these trucks because I didn’t know how to tackle the front end problems as most used ones have break and pin problems when there in my price range

There's no seals in the spindle bores on them like the big trucks to keep water out ? Usually i get a shim kit in the king pin set as standard

For just a little more time and effort (hurry up and slow down) you can do the job properly the first time and save yet more time and $$ down the track fixing your mistakes. At least you know as JC videos his work if you brought a truck from him you see what he has done, How many other truck dealers do that? Tony from Western Australia.

That’s a great informative video my friend, always a pleasure to watch your “ no BS” content. Love the Tiger Tools, made in Canada 🇨🇦 too. My Mac Tools dealer is also my Tiger Tool dealer, same price as the truck part supply shop but I like to support the small businesses too.

Fully support buying tools from local businesses too. I used to go to one place for everything and it was handy that way as if anything ever broke, returns were super easy given how local they were. Also enjoy the videos and think the editing is just fine.

That JC has to be the best explanation of using a dial indicator that I have seen so far, very understandable and comprehend with the pictures as well grin So often when you see machinists using them in videos in a machine shop they already assume that you have a basic knowledge of their operating procedure or that as they are so familiar with the use they forget that other people can't "see" what they see in their explanation are are left scratching their heads. Some good machinest KZbin channels to learn more are ABOMB79 Keith Rucker - Vintage Machinery. org (also check his website for a huge library of FREE machinery Books ETC) Mrpete222 And Keith Fenner You can learn a ginormous amount of tips tricks skills and in most of your cases Being in America maybe even assistance on your projects. Love the video JC that one should go in your play list of How to use your tools properly! Tony from Western Australia
