W4F - Camping in the Catskills with Outsiders

Ken Tanaka of Wish4Fish is back. This time, camping in the Catskill Mountains of New York with the Outsiders NYC.
I am bringing it back old school. Camping adventures was sort of how Wish4Fish started. Going on these fishing and camping adventures. For a lot of people, going camping for the first time can be a scary thought. I hate to use the word glamping but this is a good way to introduce yourself to the outdoors.

Thanks man. It’s all about the adventure. Fly fishing is just one of my favorite ways to spend my time. Camping being right up there as well. If you go back to my beginning video you will see that camping was the roots of Wish4Fish.

Yo Ken! You’re back! I’m actually going camping from Friday to Monday by the Roscoe campgrounds in a couple of days w a few friends. Nice. Supposed to go down to 32 F. Did you get to fish during this trip upstate?

That sounds awesome! (and cold! 😉) Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get out fishing this time. Although, since Camp Here Here is only an hour away from fantastic water so hopefully I can make a trip back up there.

@@Wish4Fish hey Ken. I know you got a lot of fans and requests but I am up fishing the West Branch practically every weekend. Would love to see how you'd approach a couple of elusive browns on the far bank that won't even look at my fly. I hope I don't freeze to death this weekend. Did you insulate your northface tent during that trip?

Unfortunately, I am no where near there anymore. Had to drive 9hrs to get back up there. Those are some tricky Browns for sure. I have sat there for hours, changing fly and fly before I coax them to take. I did not insulate my tent. Although, I did have on several layers including my 19 degree bag for warmth. I suggest being over prepared! Nothing worse than freezing in your tent!

Thank you very much! Best tip is to stick with it! Have the fly you need (like a Cahill) is size 20, 18, 16. As well as a 12ft leader. Tippet down to 6x and you can eventually fool them.

😂 That stream did have trout in it supposedly. Camp Here Here is also only 1hr away from the West Branch of the Delaware as well as other fantastic streams so I hope to be back there!
