As far as I've seen it's something that only happens on this channel, mostly because it often covers obscure places from where there is a rather poor selection of imagery that will almost certainly not be enough to adequately illustrate an hour long video, AI is just a tool and there is nothing wrong with leveraging it to have a positive impact when the alternative could be just a hand full of vague pictures and 50 minutes of mostly simón talking to two different cameras.

The people at Wa state spoke Chinese because the Wa state was part of China during Ming dynasty and many went there to escape conflict in China. Culturally, they are closer to China.

Regarding the Yunnan-Myanmar borderland ethnic groups, some of them were practically a subset of Han Chinese in a historical socio-cultural sense. Somewhat similar to the various Germanic-Nordic groups. The Han+55 PRC designation somewhat exaggerated the number of ethnic groups. Perhaps some could be categorized as tribals within the same group.
