Astro Colony:
Astro Colony is a game of automation and exploration in an infinite procedurally generated universe. It is composed of fully destructible voxel planets. Explore endless Universe and create the most efficient constellation of colonies. Build conveyor systems to automate production. Take care of Astronauts and their needs! That's a great tip, thanks! 😺 I just heard about that one in the game's discord last night, so I'm anxious to give it a try when I record next. I love your design! Can't wait to see how you grow the station. For the main platform, I think you can delete the floor tiles to run the wire down.

I'm glad you like the design! We're only just getting started and I think it's going to turn out cool. 😻 I need to unlock foundations in the tech tree before I can delete them from the main platform. Last time I tried, I couldn't run wires through those thicker blocks but I will clean up that wiring soon. I'm planning to tidy up everything on the main platform in a future episode.

i've found the asteroid collectors only use power to extract the ores from an asteroid, the tractor beams don't need energy... some info for future use... also if your trying to watch power, each auto asteroid catcher uses 4 energy, if you set up solar just near them that's only 48 panels.. that leaves the carbon for everything else needing power.. you can even have separate grids for power.. ie the catchers on just solar for example

That's great information, thanks! 😺 It's hard for me to predict just how much carbon and gold we're going to need for other things. I can always recycle the solar panels to get some or all of gold back, but I can't get the carbon back once it's been burned in the reactor. For now, I'm planning to lean on solar as much as I can, while trying to keep the station looking nice. I'm going to save carbon for crafting since there's a few things that need it. We can always setup some more carbon reactors if we need to. I'm definitely learning a lot as we go!

hitting Q enables clicking and dragging for deleting multiple items u can also click drag to one and and then do it again in another direction within the same sequence

Instead of setting up filters for all the ore outputs, simply set a blocker to block the ice and coal. Quicker to set up and not limited to 5 ores ;)

Interesting setup. Yes curious how you are going to improve upon it more. I know i started mine one way but started taking my platform a different direction after seeing some of your reworks. Only difference is building the main catcher platform ABOVE the main floor. That way the asteroids shouldn't clip into the main base.

The asteroid harvesting platform turned out pretty good. You'll see the completed platform in the next episode. 😺 I like to continuously revise things as I go and let things evolve. It's going to be interesting to see where we end up with the station. We also need to think about our designs for mining out the planetoids. That's going to be fun too!

You should sort your resources at the end of the belt rather then at the collector's exit. Collectors will grab any asteroid in range and not the one you might want. This will waste time on processing ore that will remain inside the collector.

Actually, I need every type of material that the collectors can gather. I'm filtering at the collector's exit mostly for throughput. More collectors can dump to a single belt if they're only offloading their smeltable ores. The other output is collecting the ice and carbon. If all of those materials were dumping to a single belt then that belt would become a bit of a bottleneck and not keep up. I'm currently processing the smeltable ores, and much later in the series, I'll be automatically handling the carbon and ice.

Bro' going to have to steal that design.. i like it allot... The only way to diviate from the cables being is up is going going 1 layer out the Entire way around the starting base. Found out that Central Play you have to go around it. 2Below in fact... Basically making it into a like Cage..

love how the series is going, I still hate that even after such a big rework you insist on filtering right outside of the asteroid miners instead of getting everything onto a storage hub and filter from there.-

It's been a while since I recorded this, but the reason may have been that I didn't want to risk any one material getting blocked due to congested belts mixed with multiple ores. I would love to jump back into Astro Colony at some point.

On the opposite site you could have placed a blocker for Carbon / Ice :D

Can you hide the power cables in the pillars going up and down? I have seen where they can be hidden in the walls of the planetoids.

I've been thinking of doing that very thing, it's a great idea! I tried a little but is was pretty hard getting the wall blocks to place the way I wanted to hide the cables. I'm going to try again and maybe some other ways to hide them in future episode. I'm not sure yet how best to do it, especially for the ones that run up and down between the floors of my station.

hm... 15 panels per row x 4 rows x 1 power per panel = 60 power. Nice. You just got rid of 6 carbon burners.

if you have shadowplay i believe there are some color blind filters that you can use

Thanks! That's a good suggestion, but I don't want to end up changing the way the game looks for viewers. Usually, I can find a way around my colorblind challenges but we'll see (or at least you all will, and I'll try 😸).

As a colourblind person as well, the ore's are impossible to tell the difference between, I don't have the game, but what if you hover over the icon? Does that bring up a tooltip or something?

Several of the ore displays do have tooltips, but not all of them.. at least not yet. I made the suggestion that they consider distinguishing the ores by shape in addition to color. That is the technique I usually see used to help those of us with color blindness.

@@Glidercat i was going to mention the same thing. a more concise way of stating it would be that you would need to remove a foundation to pass cables and pipes through the floor.

@@lonnierh0dgejr41 I'm going to be doing exactly that in a future episode. You do need to unlock the foundations in the tech tree before you can remove them, though.

press Q to bring tool in hand, with left click select multiple object (it work only one axis one time)and after you are done selecting press Del...mass deleting

It's interesting to me you are mass deploying astro catchers , and is this making planetoid mining redundant, im a tad worried about that , a whole game mechanic ignored

It turns out that there are several materials you can't get from the asteriods: dirt, quartz, rock, titanium, uranium, and wood. There might be more, I'm not sure yet. I am going to try to limit the size of my asteroid harvesting array to what it is now. I've seen some pictures on the game's discord where people have deployed dozens of them! I think it will be more fun to emphasize mining the planets and not going overboard with the asteroid catchers, but we'll see. I can always set up an identical asteroid mining array on another tile of our station, or even on a planetoid, if we start coming short on iron, copper, gold, coal and/or Ice.

@@Glidercat cool good to know, sounds cool there's so many mats , must have multi stage processes at some point ... fyi I tried to play captain of industry , got quite into it, got bricked/death spiraled , I had no way to make concrete slabs cause of no electronics ,couldnt make the mixer , and couldnt get to research to distillery for the petrochemical stuff needed , some degree of research planning is needed I guess

@@rphilipsgeekery4589 My big secret to not failing in Captain of Industry is the "Pause" button and really taking my time as I go. 😺 In the first few hours of every playthrough you really have to be thinking ahead until you're at a point that you can independently produce all of the critical building resources they start you out with. Once you get over that hump, you still need to keep on top of things, but it gets much, much, easier. One of the major reasons I like Captain of Industry is exactly because of that level of difficulty. That said, I wouldn't want *every* game I play to be that hard, but I do really like it for a change of pace and its unique set of challenges. But again, you really need to take it slow in that game, in my opinion. I've played 4 times and I only failed on my very first playthrough due to a brutal drought preventing me from growing crops.

@@Glidercat it's not a total killoff , yes it's no kids game..., and the strategy you advised was what I was going to do next time , I rushed too fast and used my concrete up , mind you rubber seems hard to get , plus electronics needs petroleum chemical stuff which is far into the tech tree , will try again though :)
