Last but not least, to shed some light: vogue is from the East Coast, waacking is from the West Coast. Vogue is based on fashion, runway, etc while waacking is meant to take on a character and tell a story as if you're in a movie. New York is a fashion-base, Los Angeles is movie-based. It made a lot of sense hearing this at a meet and greet from Javier Ninja (vogue dancer) and Viktor Manoel (an original waacker from Los Angeles). They both shed a lot of light on the dances.

I just want to add the exact terminology is whacking not waacking according to Viktor Manoel. As it comes from the word whack. Waack means nothing but whack means hitting which makes more sense. Apparently the word whacking was misspelled and since it wasn’t well known at the time no one really questioned it and went with it. The podcast dancespeak with Viktor Manoel explains everything.

i just double checked. the best history i could find is up on dance jam. punking was the original underground name. waacking is the name it took as it become more main stream. popping and locking are evolutions of 60s funk dances: the jerk and funky chicken. ive seen some straight dudes doing nice straight versions of punking/wacking. its all about individual style.
