The Charles Gore Lecture: The Poetics of Life with Professor Catherine Pickstock

Professor Catherine Pickstock gave the 2024 Charles Gore Lecture at Westminster Abbey on 18th September 2024. In a lecture titled 'The Poetics of Life: Life as Poetry', Pickstock argued that 'to live poetically is to participate in the Trinitarian generation of image and its fulfilment as intellect or spirit'.
Catherine Pickstock is the Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. She is the author of several books in philosophical theology, the most recent being Aspects of Truth (2021). She is currently the recipient of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for a project entitled Platonic Poetics.

God has always transmitted his divine purpose through poetry, the Psalms being just one example. Our hymns are poetry set to music. Where we find beauty, in this case the beauty of language, we find God.
