At last, here's the WABC (channel 7 in New York City) sign-off I promised. First up, after the very end of a local PSA, is the "Morning Message" from Reverend Charles H Straut Jr., Director of the Brooklyn Division of the Council of Churches of the City of New York. He delivers a still-timely mini-sermon about the Supreme Court's decision regarding the education of the children of undocumented immigrants. Then Ed Williams reads the sign-off, followed by the Star-Spangled Banner, some dead air, and a bit of the color bars. No rights held or implied. (If you'd like this video removed for copyright reasons, please contact me rather than notifying KZbin, I will gladly take it down from this channel.) This is on compilation 64 at oldtvads.blogspot.com...

"This is station WABC TV, New York, Channel 7, key station in the ABC Television Network. WABC TV studios are located at the ABC Television Center, 7 Lincoln Square New York. Programs are transmitted from the Top of the World Trade Center in Manhattan with a frequency of 174 to 180 megahertz. WABC TV operates on Channel 7 by authority of the Federal Communications Commission. Now, speaking for the entire staff, this is Ed Williams wishing you a pleasant good night, and inviting you to join us this morning at 5:15am for more outstanding entertainment on Channel 7. And now, ladies and gentlemen, our National Anthem."

I was doing some research on Ed Williams earlier today, and I believe this is the same Ed Williams , who worked at WLIB AM when it was a jazz station from 1966 to the early 1970s as well as being a jock on WCBS FM 101.1 just before it became an oldies station. Also there is a clip on youtube of Mr Williams promoting the Notre Dame at Georgia Tech game after the Prudential College Scoreboard show following the 1974 Tennessee at UCLA game. So his ABC announcing career dated back to at least that year if not a bit earlier than that.

Another WLIB alum would go out West - Victor Bozeman who, from c.1970 to his death in 1986, was an announcer for NBC in Burbank and KNBC-4 Los Angeles.

Mr. Williams (glad to know his name at last) was on quite a few WABC-TV clips of the late 1970's to mid-'80's. Sometimes intro'ing "EWN's" whenever the regular announcers were off.

I have, even though it was way past my bedtime, I was 7 in summer 1989, and I woke up just after 5am to watch WMAQ NBC 5 sign on @ 5:30am , there were color bars, missing person picture, etc.
