Interesting the different ways to go about camping and the compromises. I like being able to stand up to get dressed etc and have a bit of room so it's a tent for me. I always wonder about the rooftop tents stuck up on top of a jacked up 4wd and having to get in and out of it during the night after a session on the booze. Pretty sure I would break my neck the first night and they must be hell on the off road handling with all that weight up the top. I saw the same vehicle as mine a while back with a rooftop tent and an awning bolted to it and I'd already done the sums on weights etc with mine. No way that thing was close to being within spec. for the roof of the vehicle or the roof rack. If I had the money, and went out more often, I would be setting up a Pod trailer with all the gear and maybe a lower roof top tent. Each to their own.
@WACampingAdventures7 ай бұрын
Damn im gonna pin this comment absolutely spot on…and love the trailer idea, because the weight ontop has always been a concern for me…
@oldbloke2047 ай бұрын
@@WACampingAdventures Cheers mate. I have been drooling over the Trailmaster Pod trailers as I think that set up right they would be awesome and cover a lot of bases. AFAIK you can spec. them with the same wheels/tyres as your tow vehicle which means an extra spare as well. They're very light and you could move some of the weight from the tow vehicle to the trailer as well. They can also be specced with 12v systems, water tanks etc etc. Not cheap but I think that they would be a good thing if used well.
@Hipporider7 ай бұрын
Regarding roof top tents, you're right about the falls risk I think . Easy to do serious damage, especially when you're over 50. Add to that, you're in the middle of nowhere with bugger all access to ambulance 🇦🇺
@oldbloke2047 ай бұрын
@@Hipporider Yep it can all go wrong pretty quickly out in the sticks. Carrying the gear to get help such as PLBs or Satphones is a necessity imo.

Fantastic review as usual you are as honest as the day is long. We have an Aldi easy up tent which we free camped from Hervey Bay to Uluru n return, was an absolute revelation. i love a user review, tho was keen to hear about why you chose a swag over a rooftop tent. I can think of a few, having to go for a pee in the middle of the night, the roof top tent doesn't fit on the boat, a landcruiser makes a bad river boat etc lol
@WACampingAdventures7 ай бұрын
😂😂😂😂best comment hahaha i can see how ive numptied the title up. I sort of meant it in a way that i love the swag so i dont need a rooftop tent but do like swags for ease of use, being able to move around without packing up rooftop tent. And the toilet thing is legit a worry hahaha

It did come across as a big sales pitch wich is fine, you did mention the discount wich is the same as saying they sponsor me. But it's getting harder and harder to watch 4WD videos. I understand the more revenue the more resources you can dedicate to videos but it's becoming monotonous. I no longer watch Ronny Dahl, Andrew St. Pierre White, or any of the other commercials. If I wanted ads, I'd watch TV. Sorry that rant got away from me and probably makes no sense (no filter, no editing), but you where one of the last real ones please stay real

But yet I cannot see anywhere on Raingers website that they are...If these are just chinese swags thats very expenisve. Because then they are actually just all coming from the same factories over there. They do look the exact same design as your BCF and Darche and Ridge 4x4 swags? My old BCF swag looks just like this... so to be charging the same as a Murchison River Swag that is also $700 but aussie made and a 10 year warranty makes sense. This doesnt? Am I missing something?
