This is best youtube video I have ever seen. Being from Texas, I never knew that he had so much humility and difficulty in his career. I have heard that at one time he stopped playing and actually worked with elders in nursing homes. He is in my opinion the best fiddle player ever in the United States and only second to Stephan Grappelli in the world...Thank you so much for posting this amazing bio.

I'm going to be sharing this documentary with a Facebook friend who counts Johnny Gimble as one of his all time favourite music heroes. Thanks Mugg for your extensive written tribute to Mr. Gimble, it has been a pleasure learning of this kind gentleman, a person who always stayed true to his heart and lived life on his own terms while maintaining a quality family life.

I got to sing on stage with Johnny at the SPJST south of Temple, Texas in the early 80s. The band was Johnny Lyon and the Country New Notes and Johnny Gimble was sitting in with them. I sang "The Fireman". Man, that was a high point for me.

Went over to Ft Worth a couple years ago to see Red Steagall. Got there a little late and show had already started. Anyhow, I was walking around and the fiddle kept catching my ear. I started watching the fiddler and admiring how he seemed to be an integral part of the fiddle. I thought "man this guy is better than good. Sounds like Johnny Gimble." I moved up closer and saw that it was him. I hadn't seen him in a few years and he was older than I recalled so I hadn't recognized him. None better.

Johnny Gimble came and played at the one Gimble/Parker family reunion that I managed to get too back in 1979. He brought a bunch of his friends from Nashville and they all put on a great show. Any time I hear any swing, I think of him.

According to Wikipedia Johnny Gimble is still alive. It was last updated Nov. 22, 2014. I guess they could be wrong but I hope not. Gimble's smiling face is almost as much fun to watch as his fiddle playing virtuosity is to listen to.

Smokey Montgomery was my producer in Dallas and he used to keep me lined out. Lol I’d say let me hear that back if we were recording and he’d make fun of me and say Ronnie’s a pro he wants to hear it back lol. They was going to play it back anyway but I was so dumb I didn’t know that lol.
