The pen is pressure sensitive. It depends on the software that you're using on whether or not it recognizes it. Like a painting program would allow for that, but I'm not sure if photoshop does, it's been a while since I reviewed this product. It should say on their site

You can press the botton on the side to turn off the surface from responding to your hand and only working with the pen.

Sure, although this model is not really targeted toward graphic designers, I think they're higher end tablets are more sensitive and offer more options, you could still do some sketching with the bamboo pen and touch

@frogparfait29 no photoshop is not necessary to use the tablet. the propper software is provided already. BUT if you want to draw with your tablet and not just make notes you will need a software for drawing, like corel painter, artrage or of course, photoshop. in some wacom products these softwares are already available. if you buy a version without any software and you want to draw, then you will have to buy it additionally to the tablet. i hope i could help ^^

I might have missed this while watching the video, but just to make sure. When you are using the pen, can you rest your hand on the part where you touch? For example, while you're drawing or something, and the side of your hand is resting on the touch pad part thing, does it sense your hand as a touch too?
@jeremysart14 жыл бұрын
I just bought one of these today, the reason I purchased it was so I could draw directly into photoshop. I agree 100% about the learning curve, these things arent as pick up and go as you'd think. For some reason Photoshop 7 and CS4 do not recognize the eraser, I still have the manually select it, and I still have to manually select the opacity and width, it for some reason not adjust by the pressure of the pen on the tablet. Also, when I try to shade it thinks im double clicking?

Good demo on the Wacom Bamboo. I bought one used with ToonBoom Pro windows Xp srv pack 2 BTW for you PC users. Wacom's C.S is almost non existent, so I returned it after about 20 days, waiting for some calibration help. Your Demo showed, I could have full access to my screen. When I had it, I could not access the bottom of my screen as I could with a mouse. Meaning, having the Wacom, although a smaller pad, access my whole monitor screen. Might go try it again? I need something for Animate jobs

Thank you so much for your review. It has answered most of my questions regarding how these tablets work, especially the non-touch cursor movement. The only question left for me is whether i can overcome the learning curve to start using these to ink in comic art as I'd like to. I've gotten pretty decent using the photoshop pen tool with my mouse and this would be a whole new ball game.
@Coreten180113 жыл бұрын
@MrCrackOps Referencing the Wacom website, RAM is not something that is associated with the Tablet. It's just like your mouse, the only things you need are, and I quote from the site, PC Windows® 7, Vista® or XP with Service Pack 2 Mac Mac OS® X (10.4.8 or higher) Hardware Also requires color display, powered USB port, and CD/DVD drive

Very useful and clear tutorial. Thank you very much. After seeing this, I feel that that time is near. If you leave the touch function on while you're using the pen, will resting your hand on the tablet while you're using the pen interfere with your strokes?
@iewa77713 жыл бұрын
@behappiful yes, to draw you need to press pen onto the tablet or else you won't be able to make thin/thick lines when drawing! the tablet senses how the pressure you're pressing the pen onto it.

@omarcorrea I dissagree, the pen and touch has an eraser and +4 buttons which can help alot with drawing etc (zooming eg). Use one for a "touch off" button when painting, touch mode is just an extra imo. I personally am used to touchpad more than pen,and if it helps not moving my hand alot.;) My mouse moves 1920px(per 2px) width within 5cm/2 Inch, but pen is way more acccurate. Pen=just pen (no eraser) Touch&pen=Pen+eraser+4 buttons fun=extra software (and medium size only comes in fun)

@mkheer91 It most likely means you don't have any pen and/or touch input connected. Win7 home/budget seems to not support pen/touch functions in the OS. Usually you have to turn them (partially) off anyway because they seem to conflict sometimes. If you have Win7 Home->I suggest doing some more research If you have premium orso -> you should be fine any way or the other (just keep in mind the above when running into problems). Just what I ran across while researching, don't have Win7 myself.

I just ordered one of these to test drive before I possibly invest in an Intuos later. I realize they've got quite the steep learning curve and that's okay. Being that I'm mainly an Autodesk Maya user and there's nothing quite like the marking menu mouse gestures in that software I've always been just fine with any generic 7 button mouse. But now I'm excited to see how this "feels" with sculpting detail in ZBrush and texture painting with The Foundry's Mari software & Photoshop. Great review!

Please respond to this. I'm buying a new tablet for drawing purpose and I'm wondering if this is something you can recommend for me. It looks very good, but I need a answer to see it it fits the standards I seek. The pressure sensitivity, does the brush get thicker in photoshop when you press harder..? @eddyto12 It might if you lift the pen too much, there is a function which can be mapped to a button to disable touch. Personnaly, I forgot to do that sometimes but usually I didn't even notice it until a lot later (15 min orso).

i've used the tablet for a year and a half before i moved to a cintiq and i found it a lot easier to use when your actually having your pen touch the surface rather than having it float, its a lot more precise and you have more control (: but that is just my view on it ^_^ and its a lot more comforting the surface will now scratch up no matter how hard you press down with your pen :p (((:
