I own a Wacom 13HD and an XP-PEN 13.3 pro. I can confirm everything you said in this review, they are virtually the same. I lean more towards my XP-PEN because it has more shortcuts, the satisfying dial, and the surface feels reaaaally nice. Not to mention it's really quiet to draw on.

I'm glad you liked the video :D I'm currently working on a new series where I go into -everything- about my process and software and all that good stuff :D Current set up is a Blue Yeti microphone and Audacity for recording audio. TvPaint 11 Pro for storyboarding/animation with the xppen artist 13.3 pro tablet for drawing. Davinci Resolve (free version) for editing. :)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video :) Screen tablets are definitely pricier than the non-screen but using one doesn't make you a better artist as any basic tablet will do if you practice enough :D I used a non-screen tablet for four years before I got the cintiq!

I'm still using the xppen artist 13.3 pro! but if you have the budget for it I'd recommend a 15 or 16" model so you have a bit more room to work with :)

I found a matte screen protector from Amazon - as long as it’s the right size and says ‘Matte’ it should be fine :)

Cintiq always my dream and I've been thinking of I should have the secondhand one, the owner didn't use it for too long and the price drop.. But currently I've interested with xp pen too haha.. I'm an artist and I want to do 3d art and game designing . I choose xp pen artist pro13.3 and wacom intuos pro paper edition 13.3 . I will plug it to my laptop predator Helios 300(2020) . They are of approximately same cost but I have to choose any one of them . Can you give me a suggestion that which one might be better for game character designing .

I suppose that depends on whether you want a paper drawing at the same time - and I'm assuming you'd have to replace the nibs at some point too so that's an extra cost you might want to think about. I'd definitely recommend checking out different reviews for both tablets and seeing whether there's one you like more :)

i got a question? i'm planning on getting the xpen 13.3 pro just like the one you have but i got many questions for that? ~ can i use it to make cartoon/animated videos? ( like that one you show from the ending? ) ~ can i use it on a chromebook computer? ~ does it come with a screen protector? ~ can i make it work without a computer? ~ can i be able to use it without the HDMI cable plug in? ~ do i need to leave it charge over night after using it? like seriously i have so many questions that need answers lol!!!

I use mine to make all my animations:) It doesn’t come with a screen protector It needs to be plugged in to a laptop/pc to work. It acts like an extra monitor The hdmi cable is what connects it to the pc/laptop No need to charge it overnight. Think you can use it with a chrome book but not sure

Don’t think so. There are some xppen tablets that will plug into your smartphone and laptop but they’re smaller and don’t have a screen so you draw on top while looking at the screen of your laptop/phone.

@@kdsketch It works well for a few minutes and then starts to lag like crazy, even after closing all my applications... so it's been collecting dust for a few months. My computer doesn't have the best graphics card, but I have my eye on the new Mac Mini, I'm going to wait and see when the new M1 chips will be able to support more illustration and animation work. I really wish I used that money towards an iPad with an Apple Pencil now 😭

Yeah mines the same! I couldn’t work on my larger projects because it’d just freeze and say TVPaint is not responding 😅 decided to build myself a fancy PC rather than go back to Mac - though I do miss being able to easily transfer my files!!

Still using mine every day! Just make sure you get a screen protector so even if it does scratch you can switch it out :)

My old Cintiq has recently abandoned me and I was looking into maybe substitute it with this model (just a bigger version). I saw you tried it on TVPaint. Did you experience any lags or overall issues with the tablet software? I'm not sure why the XP-pen website doesn't list it as a compatible software, so an opinion from someone who has tried it would be great! Thanks!

I'm really impressed with xppen, I'd totally get a larger tablet from them and will look to upgrade to a larger size eventually since there's so many toolbars and panels in tvpaint that need more space! The only problem I had was after a couple of months I heard a buzzing sound with the tablet, turns out I just had the brightness on the monitor too high and if I lowered it down in the driver settings it stopped - found this solution on reddit). Another problem (that was my fault lol) was that the right click didn't work (though it also didn't work on my old cintiq too). It was basically because tvpaint and the tablet driver were using windows ink - I had to make sure that was turned off, check the tvp preferences to make sure right click was enabled and that the buttons were set correctly in the driver and it worked! Figured it out live on stream after I'd been struggling for months :') Hope this helps!

The only other thing would be the design/look of the driver isn’t as nice/modern as Wacom but that makes no difference to how it can be used/run 😂

@@kdsketch Thank you for your answer! Yeah I watched another review where there was a minor issue with the tablet monitor brightness (nothing mentioned about a buzzing sound though). Apparently, it was because the tablet was not plugged into the wall and was running just on computer power. The right click thing shouldn't be a problem either: I hardly ever used the function when I had the Cintiq, and it would be running on Mac. Thanks again!

@@kdsketch to be fair, the only time I had to open the Wacom driver was when the tablet had crashed or for a driver update, which I wasn't particularly happy with. As long as the driver does its job I will be content with that.

Can I ask about the PENs? Compare and contrast them? I tend to like Wacom here. Any other PEN I’ve tried are not as good and the quality I feel is a huge difference. I’ve been disappointed in other PENs. But I am willing to get used to something else especially at this price point. Do you know how much a pen replacement is?

XPPen's stylus is definitely lighter than Wacom, feels a little strange at first but I'm used to it now. Looks like their replacement pens are a max of $25.99 so not too bad price wise :)

Quick question, I heard that FFmpeg Zerona and they are closing all of their builds, Is their an alternate why to export the animation or Zerona is the only program? and the date is set on Sept 12.

If you're using Krita you can always export your animation as a PNG sequence and import to an editing program - I use the free version of Davinci Resolve - and then you can export from there (also means that you can add sound easily too). I'm not sure about any ffmpeg alternatives at the moment but I'll keep an eye out :)

Nice videos love it, can you pls tell us about the driver as i heard the drivers of xp pen are not so good and how was your experience with it,i own a deco pro series and the experience is not so good but the problem is only with the short cut keys and some time the cursor disappear out of the screen and not able to draw.

Well wacom cintiq 13 hd is an older tablet. And a budget one for that time i think there's never now like wacom 13 pro and wacom one. Not one by wacom because that's another one. They have so similar name...

It sounds like a wacom copy but with way more functionality, and the scroll wheel blows wacom away sraight on! I wonder about these graphic tablets durability... How durable are they? If it more durable than wacom then its a massive give away and a massive blow to wacom sales!

I used my xppen tablet for a couple of years before Huion reached out for me to try theirs - currently using the Huion Kamvas 16 Pro (2.5k resolution) and it's been working great too :) I sold my Wacom tablet ages ago and haven't missed it - would be happy to go with either xppen or huion in the future though!
