Wacom Cintiq 22 Review

An update... I just got the chance to try both Cintiq 22 and latest XP Pro 16 (not 22, unfortunately, but both use same technology anyway). Despite Cintiq 22 is "budget" version of Cintiq line and XP Pro 16 uses all kind of latest bell and whistles, Cintiq 22 is flat out beat XP Pro 16. . The pen is MUCH nicer to hold, more accurate, better distributed pressure, better initial force activation. Cintiq display has better color (though I feel somewhat less saturated/more muted color... but this may be due to display setting since both was connected to different PC). XP screen is too slippery it's difficult to make precise drawing but this may be due to the screen protector... but then again, I don't think you want to peel off the film that was already attached from the factory... and even if you peel it, it may not be far better than before. While drawing on Cintiq is simply awesome. . And though Cintiq 22 still uses "old" glass display while XP already uses the new laminated display technology, I don't feel any difference in term of parallax. It's either Cintiq 22 already has minimal parallax (Wacom do claim it has decreased parallax) or XP still has that bit of parallax... or both. I only notice the parallax on Cintiq when I glued my eyes to the display, and it's very tiny gap. I didn't notice it at all while drawing. But one thing for sure, it still feel better drawing on Cintiq. While there may be no parallax on XP Pro 16, the cursor is slightly off (though this may be due bad calibration) and more and more off the more you move the cursor to side/corner. This doesn't happen to uncalibrated Cintiq. . And last... is the driver. I simply love Wacom driver. It's accurate and has so many options. XP drive is not bad... it's just Wacom is far better. . So in the end, it's about the PRICE. The only reason why you may want to pick XP Pro 16 over Wacom Cintiq 22 (at least according to my opinion) is when you don't have the budget. Over here, XP Pro 16 only cost about 1/3 of Cintiq 22 and XP Pro 22 cost about 2/3 (additional info: XP Pro 16 cost about 2/3 of Cintiq 16). . Though XP may uses the laminated display, it still can't beat the drawing experience on Cintiq 22. I'm really glad I went to the workshop, they kindly let my try all those new Cintiq and XP (my thanks to them). Oh, I also try XP Artist 12, while it feels even worse than XP Pro 16, the pen actually feels better).

You keep saying others have better screen specs but in another video you talked me out of the Huion Kamvas pro 22 when you pointed out its lower 350:1 contrast and its milky blacks. Which is why I started looking at this one.

Isn't she wonderful. Lisa is the the nerds nerd. Utterly brilliant. The only other person who comes close is Mr.Mobile and although well researched only tends to do mainstream reviews. Lisa does the more obscure stuff and makes it really interesting. It is slightly depressing that there are not more people following this channel. She should have more followers.

Should I get the Wacom Cintiq 22 or hulion 22 tablet. I want to use it for these reasons: 1. Second monitor, 2. 2D drawing for animation, 3. 3D designing. I am a beginner artist and want to grow into at least intermediate. I am confused now. The whole idea of laminated screen is quite complicated for me. I just need easy and simple drawing experiences like erasing and painting. Excellent Review, you are the best.

Hi, great review, as always! I'm thinking of buying it, but I do have one simple question. I'll be using it as the only monitor, and I'll connect it with an HDMI cable. In my experience HDMI connectors suck up the audio from the PC as well, so will this be the case with this tablet?

5:42 ATTENTION - As far as I know, you should NOT use FELT nibs on the Cintiq16/22 screens. I found it in a comparison table and also the wacom support confirmed my question. The felt can damage/scratch the surface. It is only advised to use felt nibs on the PRO models! #wacom #cintiq #nibs #felt

Odd since the felt tips are much softer than the hard plastic nib that's preinstalled at the factory.

@@mobiletechreview They can collect dust, which can have sand particles, which is much harder than a plastic nib. If you keep a felt nib clean then there is no problem. Plenty of artists use felt on cintiqs. Enjoy.

It's pretty close. The laminated display models will have the least parallax, but I can't say it's significant on the Cintiq 22.

That's what you get in the Cintiq Pro line. Only pen monitors with 4K resolution on the market. I'd love to have seen QHD on this one though.

@@FeralSwift np. More noteworthy differences are that the 22 comes with the newer pro pen 2 so it's not all downgrades. The 22 also has no fan unlike the 22HD. I ended up getting the cintiq 22 and I use it in combination with my intuos pro for it's touch controls and expresskeys (so I don't have to buy the seperate remote)

There's a lot to like about the 2019 Kamvas Pro line - wider gamut and laminated glass. But in the end I'd pick the Cintiq for the best pen performance and driver experience. For artists that is. If you're a photo retoucher, then I'd go with the wider gamut laminated Huion models.

Something I love about your tablet reviews is you often draw these super crude images. And yet we know your are a very skilled artist as we can see near the end. Just something that makes me laugh when everyone else does these really serious pictures, and then you just because you can you draw something a bit above a stick figure.

I was about to buy one of these cintiq 22hd and the seller, believe or not, as soon I told him I am an Illustrator told me that this model has a serious lag problem. Is that true cos I never heard anything about this issue?!

Drawing will change that fact, and buying something really expensive can financially lock you in to feeling like you should get better. I got a lot better since I bought my cintiq 6 years ago. I still use it daily.

There's no shame in admitting that the competition is as good these days and their devices are better then this. Pen.... well personal, the Wacom pen isn't unparalled at all, the competition is close, too close. Love your reviews, but when it comes to Wacom I'm starting to think you're totally biased. XP-Pen and Huion have the better devices in this range and their pens are too close these days to warrant the still too high price tag on Wacom. For that reason alone you should stop recommending these Wacom 'budget' products, since you need to look at the total package...... worse pen display, marginally better pen doesn't warrant a $250-$350 higher price at all, on the contrary. Reviewers should stop recommending overpriced products that don't warrant their pricetag.
