Genoni is a legend in Switzerland. Same age as Berra, similar talent as a junior. But deemed too small for a chance in the NHL He won 7 championships in Switzerland with three different teams. He has a reputation as a very clutch player, being at his best when it matters most

Hockey Worldcup is huge in Europe. Everybody that has a chance should watch the final tomorrow. The atmosphere in the stadium will be crazy. It will be much much louder than any NHL playoff game. The crowd in Europe is way more into it. A win would mean a lot for both team. Lets go 🇨🇭

As a CBJ fan, honestly, if this actually does come to pass, I'm kinda stoked, given the other names that have leaked/been mentioned, which were almost uniformly disastrous. Again, if it happens, and especially considering the sheer number of supremely talented people who've found success directly after leaving this organization, you'd probably have to say that this would be the best non-roster move the McConnells have made since hiring Tortorella, and that was 8 years ago.

In 2001 for Game7 of the Finals, Avs vs Devils, 2nd to last row of building, right on center ice. $81 face value. And $40 more to park under a bridge somewhere because all the regular parking went to the press. The person next to me spent $1000. Do I regret not scalping my seat? No, even if the Devils had won, how often are you in person at the biggest game in the sport? Would it have been painful? Oh yeah. That's a whole lot of finality. But I've been at a Game7 and it went well. So I'm very happy about that. And the whole Cup presentation was to my side of the ice, so I could clearly see Sakic to Bourque. Was awesome. I stayed for an extra hour, let the place empty out into lower downtown, leisurely bought some swag, wandered out to car to see they'd closed all entrances to the area from the interstate, but had it set so we could leave.

@@jackoblllllllll After more than 100 years it sort of got a tradition ;-) I think it is an oddity because it is every year, in contrast to other world championships. But for us in Europe it counts something, like the WC in other sports, like football (the thing you call soccer). In contrast, Baseball and American Football doesn't exist over here.

What you showed yesterday against Sweden was truly impressive, thx for putting the Swedes in their place - a lot of starpower but lack of heart. It was such a fun game to watch! I was rooting for you, now I'm pretty calm about the final since even if we loose, I would like to see the Czech win as well - especially at home. I had an exgirlfriend from Czechia and I really like your country. I just hope that it doesn't come to any nasty scenes tonight that could start a new rivalry and make me dislike the Czech team (like the games against Sweden kinda did). @@jackoblllllllll Well, it was a nice tense game. Our team gave a great effort and they played their heart out but the better team won - it's as simple as that. Sure, there was a possibility that we might just could have stolen the game but it wouldn't really been earned. We are just not there yet our best players can certainly match any team but that's just one line, we don't have the depth to win a championship against the big boys... So I'm kinda glad it didn't went that way, you definately deserved the win. Happy celebrating ;)

The fact is, that NHL doesn't have all the best players in the world. Again and again we see year after year that there are many players who can compete against NHL players really well. The difference between NHL player and national team player outside NHL is not as big as you might think when it comes to bigger hockey countries.

Waddell could be what the doctor ordered for the Jackets. There's a promising core that could burgeon, but they're still devoid of an identity. I'd like to at least see Pascal Vincent get a proving ground run with a full training camp before they decide to move on from him. He was placed in a poor position by Jarmo and JD following the Babcock debacle. But I'd understand the change

Happy that the Swiss got an upset because those are always fun, but I absolutely hate any tournament or playoff games being decided by the shootout. Preliminary, or regular season, it's whatever because you need a winner and the points don't matter nearly as much. But the idea of a team sport in a tournament or playoff being decided by an individuals skills competition just ruins it for me.

I disagree. Shootouts are fun and nobody has the time to watch 18 hours of two teams getting tired while being unable to score. Czechs scored two goals from breakaways, should those be disallowed? Besides, the game is already decided by individual talent. Canada will always beat Kazakhstan, Italy and Japan and it’s not because they have better teamwork.

But whatever, I'll bite. 1. 18 hours is a stupid exaggeration and you know it. 2. Breakaways are absolutely not the same thing as a shoot out, because they result from defensive breakdowns. You know, a team thing. Closest equivalent would be a penalty shot, but even that is a result of a penalty by the team. 3. None of those 3 teams were even in the preliminary round, let alone the playoffs, so the individual talent of Team Canada has literally no relevance to the individual talent of the players on those teams.

Having a shootout in a tournament is the stupidest thing about the IIHF worlds. Have a team sport game decided by a mini skills competition at the end is big time lame. OT until somebody scores is much better. I’m sure the scheduling could allow for it somehow. No, I’m not just salty that Canada lost. I’ve said the same in years in which we won. Both bronze-medal-match and finals are the very next day, one of the matches only about 16h later (without OT). If you do not understand how a full extra period (or even more according to what you want) would be unfair to the teams involved, I can not help you. SO is not pretty, but in a tournament setting like this it makes sense. The teams had 70m prior to decide it in a clean way.

The shootout deciding elimination games is a joke. It took that terrible format and two goals on extremely chintzy penalties for Switzerland to beat Canada's B team.
