This is just too good, it almost wants one to stop painting.

Do you ever get lost painting the large forms like the cheeks? This reference has so little detail in the big smooth spaces, too cute!

Yeah, that was always one of the hardest areas for me to paint for many years. The gradations were so subtle. Thinking about sculpting helped...but it took years of cheeks before I felt comfortable modeling across them.

Breathtaking, amazing and very inspiring work. Thanks for your time and effort. Absolutely amazing. Have you considered painting a portrait with a candle light reflecting on the face? I think it will be a great demo. You are absolutely amazing. What do you think about a Grisaille before the actual color? Thanks again. Blessings and take care.

Hi Scott, can you tell the brand of the brushes , they work so well. Thanks for sharing your journing. Hello from Brazil.
@waddellwebisodes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I use Beste brand brushes. You can find them on Jerrysartarama.com. But if you can't find them, any synthetic round works pretty well. I like sizes 2 through 8

Great process! I've noticed that many of your portraits have a similar light quality - i.e., diffused as if under cool light. Would you say this is a result of your particular palette or because you stage most reference photos under similar lighting conditions? Thanks!

Hello Scott, do you use any media into color mixing? BTW, Your style remind me renaissance artists and their artworks. Thanks...
@waddellwebisodes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! During this stage, no. But when I layer this or correct, I do add a little refined linseed oil.

Yeah man his technique utilizes the tips of smooth round nylon brushes. It's inspiring because his finish will then have max pigment minimal glare. He also adjusts the mixtures and blends while applying in all practical cases a single layer. My guess is that opaque pigments are key.
