And the winner is..... Scott Lakey he guessed £13,500 and the actual asking price is £12,750. nearly everyone was quite high over the mark, a very interesting exercise. My feelings are that Generals items often have 'pulling power' not it doesn't make the as rare as certain other items. Also Allegmeine SS Generals caps are likely 10,000 further on in value than the waffen example.

I remember reading a report on Chinese forgery shops and one that this investigator came across had built a vintage race race car replica (the type of thing that sells for multi million at auction) even down to the nuts & bolts being hand made to suit the era. It would have turned up as some barn find in the future for whoever commissioned it, so I dont doubt anything these days in the collectable sphere is not getting custom made out in China.

I have a GENUINE SS visor cap ( well worn which means it HAS had use, no point in having a mint example as thats like having a replica ) and was owned by a Lieutenant from the most well known concentration camp. I got it from the officers daughter in Germany in 1987 when her father passed away, After the SS trials, he returned to Germany a free man
@davidbrattain14463 жыл бұрын
The caps look to be fake. The emblems may be authentic but the caps? I don't think so. I'm also a bit skeptical of the helmet. It is possible that the helmet was cleaned and repainted but the liner appears to be of recent manufacture. Keep in mind, these items were made of natural materials, wool, leather, silver, cotton or flax based thread, etc... Unless kept under a controlled environment attrition would take its toll on these items after almost 90 years, even if never worn.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. For such rare items they appear to be brand new. The caps in particular are in a sublime state for "WW2 pieces." Absolutely pristine condition for caps that are allegedly 80 to 90-years-old. I'd struggle to part with the thousands of pounds being asked for considering that they look mint. With the amount of fakes in existence you'd have to be extremely skeptical with those perfectly preserved items.
@EdwardSteven35210 күн бұрын
I agree, a very suspicious Allgemeine-SS visor cap, the fabric of top doesn't match, the white piping it is completely clean, front circle should be made of velvet and the chin cord for officers should be in aluminium ( looks like white/grey ).

It’s demand that dictates prices if these items weren’t in demand no one would be paying these prices and the more people that pay , the higher the prices go, I’ve been collecting on and off since 70s, and have seen the average collector priced out of the market, and a lot of these items are now only for the rich.

I have to ask… I am in posession of one of the SS caps. I bought it for £250!! It’s very worn, rusted and smells horrible, but we can’t quite tell if it’s an officers or generals. Either way, similar price range. What are your thoughts on how much would be deducted due to the lack of pristine quality? Discolouration, rusting, weathered leather, crease/small impact mark in the rim of the leather, burn marks, scratches, slightly frayed, etc etc. I’d love the opportunity to get in touch and perhaps have you fill me in on which cap it is I have, generals or officers. Very excited, thank you for your content! Such limited info online and all very subjective. Not a lot of consistency on this topic for various, obvious reasons!

Don’t worry about those keyboard warriors mate, they’re not brave enough to show them self! @closer713 жыл бұрын
My mother’s father had one hidden at home most of his life. The 9mm Luger with Eagle & Swastika stamped into it. During the war, my grandfather’s B-24 was shot down over occupied France/Belgium. He survived a week on nothing but beets. Hidden in a barn, he had to kill a German soldier to avoid being discovered. He took this pistol off the body and kept it for his own use. After the war he received a bronze star with “V” device for this incident as well as five Air Medals. He moved to California and put the handgun in his safe at home. After he died in the summer of 1988 my grandmother found the gun and gave it to her brother-in-law, who was actually a professional gunsmith! When he eventually died in 2000, he left it to his son, so it’s out of our family now. However, I got to hold it and get a very good look at it in 1988! Amazing firearm.

What’s the cap worth? It’s worth what someone (just one needed) is willing to pay for it. I have no problem with the collection of militaria. What I wonder is why German militaria sis seemingly worth more to people than British or American; amd why SS militaria is worth more than Wehrmacht. I wouldn’t accept any arguments about scarcities as I have little doubt that British Commando militaria was produced in smaller quantity than, say, Waffen SS. Is it some kind of attraction to the losing side? Just a Confederate militaria seems to be worth more than Union. Perhaps. I think the only logical explanation for the fascination growing as the level of evil grows is that there are many collectors who want to identify with the Waffen SS or the Allgemeine SS. Whilst 10 psychiatrists would give you 15 opinions as to why, my untrained opinion is that these people are, in some way, inadequate and seek to make up for their perceived inadequacies by focussing upon evil.
