And despite the switch from CBS to FOX in 1994, one thing has remained the same: WAGA is STILL on Channel 5 (WSB and WXIA both started on Channel 8 before they went to 2 and 11 respectively with GPB (PBS) occupying 8)!

To any Atlantan out there who were around in 1980, it was obvious that WAGA-TV Channel 5 was smack in the middle of all the commotion involving WSB-TV Channel 2 and WXIA-TV Channel 11. WSB was NBC before switching to ABC. WXIA was definitely ABC before it definitely switched to NBC in the fall of 1980. And WAGA stuck with CBS for 14 years more, before it too switched to a different network. Fox, to be exact.
@johnnyballenatl8 жыл бұрын
That was just the same case in Raleigh-Durham, NC: WRAL, the #1 station for decades, rejoined NBC (their first network from 1956-62) after 30 years with CBS; WNCN had nowhere else to go to but CBS. And who was smack in the middle? WTVD, the ABC O&O who until 30 years ago, was with CBS while WRAL was part of the ABC family.

And while you're at it, Jonathan, you might as well say the same thing for Knoxville! In the fall of 1988, WATE Channel 6 was smack in the middle of the commotion between WBIR Channel 10 and WTVK Channel 26. WATE was still ABC, when WBIR went from CBS to NBC, and when WTVK went from NBC to CBS. Of course, WTVK would be renamed WKXT, and moved to Channel 8. It is now WVLT.
