YOSHIWARA LAMENT is about a young girl who was kidnapped and sold to a brothel in Yoshiwara. It is based on a short story of the same name. So it's a sad story really. The song was written by Asa for vocaloid and was a hit before he joined the Wagakki band. Beni always hits Wasabi's cymbal on this song. The song was included on WGB's first album Vocalo Zanmai which only contains vocaloid cover songs.

As a lover of Wagakki Band and LOVEBITES, I'm glad you reacted to Wagakki Band again. Wagakki Band's music is wide-ranging, ranging from heavy to jazzy to vocaloid, and there's sure to be a song you'll like. I recommend the song "Hakushu Kassai." It's a great song, made up of a number of short solos for each part. Songs like 'Nichirin', 'Ignite', 'Guernica' and 'Reload dead' are heavier songs, also recommended here. I recommend the CC W channel, which has English subtitles for Wagakki Band.

Asa, the bassist, wrote this song before joining Wagakki. It was a hit in Japan during that time and he even has a music video out. He joined the band already popular in Japan with his own band.

Yoshiwara lament~ one of my fav songs from them, the melody is just so good. I highly recommend their song "Aria of life".

One of my favourite from them! That intro Beni plays makes me smile every time I heard it. I really like how much fun they have playing it despite how sad the lyrics are. Wish I can say see them live once maybe in January as I'm going to Japan to see Band-Maid in Tokyo (and Nemophila if I manage to get tickets for one of their shows too)

Late comment to answer some question you had. This is live from Osaka Hall Symphonic Night Vol. 2 and yes indeed in many songs was a orchestra involved. And sometimes Amy Lee from Evanescence sings a bit with Wagakki at this concert. That 3 string japanese guitar is called a Shamisen and is besides the bamboo flute (Shakuhachi) one of the hardest instruments to learn. That laying harp is called a Koto and the musician who plays the Koto is married with the singer Yuko. That japanese drumset is called Taiko. Wagakki is a Superband of the highest order and their liveshows are second to none. Nobody outside of Rammstein with their crazy pyroshow is on that level. Even Nightwish or Slipknot are nowhere near. And i love me some Nightwish. If you ever have the chance to see Wagakki live do yourself a favour and go ! Now i guess you like the Moon ... i give you a Wagakki performance about the moon you never ever will forget "Kyoukasuigetsu"+ "Tsukini sakebuyoru" - Live from React tour 2019 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4jPfpZjpcd3mZo . There are subtitles and its worth it to read them, just as friendly advice. ENJOY and hold your jaw coz it will drop alot ^^

Great song with a killer melody. They always play around during this song; I wonder if it's done to keep the audience's spirits up during such a sad song set in a time and place I'm sure most people would rather not have happened. The second voice, at least the second woman's voice, is a backing track done by . . . someone, probably Yuko.

They definitely are playing around. You're probably right about why. Thanks!

The band messing around during the second verse part is kind of a trademark in their live performance of this song, usually Kurona (Wadaiko) and Kiyoshi (Koto) is playing catch, while Beni is always hitting cymbals on Wasabi's kit. And that's also ironic for a tragic song

It's great seeing them have fun. Puts a different spin on it for a tragic song. Thanks!

This was part of the symphony night series at the Yokohama arena I believe. They played a number of songs with a full orchestra and Amy Lee was the guest vocalist on at least one of the nights.

Unfortunately, it's from "Premium Symphonic Night Vol.2" held at Osaka Castle Hall, not Yokohama Arena. This video is included in the DVD/Blu-ray enclosed in the first limited edition of WGB's 6th full-length album "TOKYO SINGING" released in October 2020.

It's actually quite a sad song, if you check out the lyrics but it's a favourite of mine. The shamisen pick, bachi, I believe represents the fan that Geishas used to play them with. This concert does have an orchestra present for some of the songs such as the collaboration with Amy Lee for Bring Me to Life and Senbonzakura, also with an appearance with Amy Lee, both worth checking out if you haven't already.

A fun fact about this song when they play it live (aside from the fooling around during the second verse) is that in the part before the last chorus, Yuko slightly alters the lyrics of an iconic/recurring line of the song ("It's raining in Yoshiwara today") to fit the location and weather of the day. At 3.04 of the original video, she says "It's raining in Osaka too" instead of the usual line. In the Live at Tokyo National Museum version for example, she says "It's clear skies tonight in Ueno" instead. It makes watching the different live performances of this song really fun, looking for that little bit of trivia. It's a really good song, thanks for reacting to it :)
