Hi Mark, I’ve recently copied your waggler floats with the 3.5 mm coloured inserts. Can see the method in them and looking forward to putting them to use. Ranging from 9 to 12 inches,side cut out and top . Now looking for some more peacock quills,normally make extra for my fishing pals,but going to put them to use before I show them.

Let me know how you find them in use.

I did that with hollow tips in last 12-15 years now. In addition to the classic solution (the specific antenna hollows tips for wagglers) I use to use plastic straw who you use to drink.

I might have the wrong name but do you remember Carbonyte plastic wagglers from the early 80s? Interchangeable tips including those hollow things. I also remember my mates and I making huge bodied peacock wagglers with lead wire around the base for distance on Kilbirnie Loch.

Yes, I remember them. Harold Pattison invented the hollow tips with the scoop in the late 70s and the Betanyte floats weren't that long after. I made my own versions with peacock quill soon after that using various bits of plastic tube.

black permanent marker pen useful for black tips and i like to leave 1/8 inch red/yellow at base of insert to show up on the drop bites

I would like you to show a way. on how to bring the peacock father in a straight line
@MarkWintleFishing9 ай бұрын
I've always been careful to store the raw quills in a way that they stay straight then select the straightest parts and once the float is complete then store them so they don't get bent. I'm aware of steaming quills to straighten them.

My tackle shop told me he can not buy peacock floats as its endangered material like tortoise shell. I don't know if he was pulling my leg & wanted me to buy some Drenan crystal wags instead .

Drennan do seem to be phasing out peacock quill in their wagglers but other float makers are still making floats with peacock quill, including Dave Harrell and Drake. There do seem to be CITES restrictions on import/export of peacock feathers.

A classic close session job, remember my dad making floats,servicing reels,replacing line on the Sundays he would of been fishing. Things to count down the Sundays till the glorious 16th.

@@MarkWintleFishingHi Mark, the two species of peafowl are both cites listed. This also includes parts, so includes quills. They also require veterinary certification. Rudd - Maggot drowner

It doesn't seem that difficult to buy quills at the moment, nor peacock quill floats. I get quills from someone who has them as pets in the UK so no import/export.

Mark if you “cap off” the bottom of the plastic before you insert it into the peacock it will ensure that there is definitely no ingress of water
@MarkWintleFishing9 ай бұрын
What I should have done is reverse the tip so that the capped end is inserted into the quill!
