He is the author of the book. He was not amused with the Bollywood style of interpretation. A writer had every right to criticise the interpretation as it his own idea. When you read his novels you will notice this. He was no fan of Bollywood nonsense. But yes, actors do only what directors are told to do. Besides, she herself says she has read the book thoroughly and has tried to stay true to her character in the book.

Guide is a great movie.However when Late writer R K Narayan ( based on whose book adaptation this movie was made ) was asked his view on the hindi movie ' GUIDE ',.his response was that the movie did not completely showcase on what he had written it as a book.
