First, Thank You! I totally forgot about setting the "Ch Info Avail" in the window as that needs to be selected for syncing with my DAW (or keyboard). I bought my RX21 used back in the early 90s. Some people don't like it, but it's been a workhorse for me. One other thing that you may want to know, I recently got the "External MIDI" function work when I use the onboard sequencer on my Behringer MS-1 monophonic synthezier (clone of the Roland SHS-101 monophonic synth) to start the drum machine pattern. If I use the tempo knob on the Behringer MS-1, that also controls the tempo on the drum machine pattern. It IS tricky to get the actual speed the same between the two... I think maybe it's the sequencer pattern is longer on the Behringer MS-1 synth' than the Yamaha RX21drum pattern... still digging into that. I record commercially licensed music under performance rights organization BMI, Inc. One thing that really helps bring out this drum machine a bit more, is using a little bit of plate reverb and compression on the same track.. just a tip.. try modifying those effects a bit in your DAW software. Have a great upcoming weekend. - Mr Tom.

hi it's a pretty nice little machine and cuts a mix well. I usually sample patterns and hen bring them into my DAW. I have arturia plate and it's nice as you say with some compression. Thanks for the tips and I appreciate the interest, best Alan

Yay! I've got mine (RX21L) on my TX7 as well. It's one of the few things that fit. Drawback: Now I can't sell my TX7, because then I have no place for my RX21L! :-)

I actually love the design of these instruments. I used to use a QX7 which was a nightmare to use but looked amazing.

@@waheex Yeah, the Yamaha design at this time was great. I used an MT2X 4 track from mid 80's up to late 90's. It looks amazing. :-) Sounds good too!

Hi - good vid, I have one of these and the screen is not the best in low light - what/where would be the best point to tap off a 5v rail for powering a backlight LED replacement? I've done this on a KorgDDD5, using the 14 pinouts + pos/neg from a 5v rail, and a trimpot to adjust the brightness, works OK. Thanks.

got a rx21 for 20 bucks, it gives me 'no battery' info when plugged, is the battery removable? or is it soldered to socket? thanks

I think it's a PCB mounted coin cell that's soldered in. You could replace with a regular CR2032 and a battery holder for future replacement

The Midi spec on that is very basic. It doesn't do Midi out really
