Wahl Icon Clipper vs Wahl Legend Clipper

Where I work we're only allowed to use Wahl, but I want to isolate myself as a female barber and be on top of my clipper game. I was having a hard time in deciding what would be best for me in order to have more clientele request me, and came to the conclusion that I would need to have multiple clippers at my station. I narrowed my decision down to the Icon as it is considered an "advanced" clipper among the Wahl line, but lacked in fading abilities, so my final decisions were between the Magic Clip and the Legend, but after seeing this video, I have made my final decision, thank you!

Excellent video. I'm in the uk and skinhead my own hair. I'm sick of cheap clippers aimed at joe public - I wanted to buy a half decent set if clippers just to cut my own hair down to 1mm or so. If a set of clippers last me more than 5 years I will be well happy. Looks like I'm getting the icon. This video is a big help. Thanks mate

My 20 year old Super Taper looks like it has a bigger motor to the legend's in this video. Is it true that old wahl motors are more powerful than newer ones? Maybe for energy saving/efficiency regulations?

I thought the Icon and the Legend are supposed to have the same power V900, how come they look different inside, why was this not addressed.

Finally someone does a comparison of these two! Thank you! Does one cut closer and cleaner than the other? I cut my own hair and use a #1 comb for a buzz cut (no fade) and have been torn between these two clippers for some time now. I currently use the wahl pro elite clippers (top of the consumer line up) but have to go over my head several times to get all of the stray hairs left behind... And it doesn't seem to give a sharp clean even looking cut. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Barberco - most excellent information here. Wahl Professional website is not helpful! I cut my own hair, and currently at Amazon and KZbin to figure out which model to buy - upgrading from basic $20 Wahl. My typical cut is #6 guard (3/4") on top, and #1 guard (1/8") on sides - using #2 and #3 to fade. I don't know much about different blade types or motor types, etc. Anyway, I was looking at the Cordless Magic Clip, which has very good ratings at Amazon, but should I stick with the V9000 motor? Wahl Pro has so many models and they do not explain the differences. I suppose professional barbers know all of this. But what is the main difference between Senior, Legend, Icon, Sterling 1/4/9, Pilot, Designer, etc.?

Can anyone tell me if the "Wahl Icon" and the "Wahl Legend" use the same attachment combs? I can only find some online that are compatible with "Wahl Legend". Do they fit both clippers?

Thanks for the video. I recently purchased the icon and I am a bit confused. My icon gets really hot after 20 minutes of running. I thought with the V9000 motor the clipper could run smoother ad cooler. Should I be concerned????? I have 2 legends and I don't have this problem. Is there a way I can fix it???? Does this happen to you???? I can appreciate what you can share or what direction you can point me to.

first of all try to oil the clipper for smooth operation. next maybe the adjusting the screw try to screw it till it buzz then loosen it up till the sound dissapear. last i would say maybe ur clipper use different voltage my 120v or 240v hope tht helps

because ure not used to fading. corded magic clip has more flat surface so u should move it vertically not scooping it like taper blade. hope tht helps

ugreat review, thanks a lot, but how is the noise, does the icon make louder noise than the legend? i ve seen that they can be adjusted to make less noise, i am wondering if the legend it makes different noise when its cutting hair, for me is very important to hear when im cutting hair, i owned a super taper and i didnt like it was too noizy and vibrating a lot.... hope i will get some answers guys. thanks

The seniors are great but a bit heavier than the other two because they don't have a plastic base plate. Otherwise a good clipper

Can the legend be used for general purpose cutting? I keep hearing you need a mower like the Oster 76, a detailer for finer work, and a main hand for most of your applications. Will the Legend serve this purpose?

i still think the corded clippers are better than having a battery (which will be obsolete) and weaker motor like in the Metal Edition these days. So the weakness in the Icon and Legend is their plastic, heat and cold, will eventually crumble the plastic especiallt at the bottom screws area of the top cap. The square part that the blade slider sits on, (the neck) strips its threads VERY easily, cause it is metal screws vs bakelite or plastic. And even if one screw is not pulling, and 2 are, the 2mm gap on 1 sidemakes it very noisy. That means you have to change the back body, where the plastic stripped threads are. So a corded Legend with full metal body would be ideal. But they don't make that, you have to buy 2 to modify.

no problem bro, just be careful not to nick the customers... my advice try it on yourself after you zero gapped it just to see the pressure it has on a skin if it bleed back it up a lil bit, customer is your source of income...

Super Taper is just a base clipper. The Legend is a much higher end piece. It's primarily designed to help you fade to the best of your ability. It has a better blade suited to that task, and a more powerful motor than the Super Taper

The Progressive Not necessarily. They have totally different blades. The Legend has a thin, wedge shaped fade blade designed for exactly that. The super taper has a standard bevel blade, which is better suited to all round & general cutting. Some will say it's better for clipper over comb too, but i can do that easily enough with the Legend. (I don't generally though coz i use the Andis pro alloy for that, my Legends solely for skin fades). Personally I would choose the Icons over the super tapers anyway as they have a stronger motor. Same blade though. There's no real thing as "one clipper does all", though you can fade with a bevel blade and take off bulk with a fade blade.

wahl icon would be a good upgrade from super taper, consider v5000 vs v9000 motor thts like i5 and i7 on a computer processor. gudluck @theprogressive

yes..legend for fading and icon for general over comb work and edging. The legend is great for nice tapering but not square lines

Lindemberg Ferreira yes, I'll give you the answer, I know how to modify all Wahl clippers. the motor, the wires, the blades, and the brackets. all you have to do is change the bracket from the legend to the senior and than the blade..there you have it.....I'll show you guy how to modify clippers on my nx video..

the legend blade can be use on icon no problem. but see the problem is that the icon lever range do not open fully unlike legend it is wider
