I think the ideal thought is " I love my body, it's not so bad right now but I can work on it for a better me and keep loving myself and bettering my health" because appearances are not everything, you have to workout for your heart and you get the perks of the body that you want. If you do it out of hate of your body, you will not be motivated and nothing good will come out of it.

Weylie, I really appreciate you talking about having a naturally skinny body (I'm the same my whole 29 years of life) and I honestly wish some people would understand without assuming the worst. The first year or so of going to the gym, I felt insecure and worried people would judge me for working out when I'm "already skinny and don't need to lose weight", and it took me a little bit to actually wear short sleeve shirts to workout in. But really, we all need to remember that everyone works out for different reasons, not all weight related, and you're doing it for nobody, but yourself. Getting stronger has really helped my confidence with the way I look, especially with my upper arms and how I disliked how skinny they looked. Thanks to yoga at an actual yoga studio, I've gained muscles and confidence to wear tank tops to class (also realized they're the best to yoga in) after taking a few classes. Then, I actually wore a sleeveless jumpsuit to one of my closest friends' wedding and before last year, I haven't worn sleeveless shirts/outfits in almost a decade! I'm still insecure to wear tank tops to workout at an actual crowded gym, but I'm glad I was able find my confidence baring my upper arms again, one way or another. :) All in all, I hope everyone can be kind to others; you never know what others are truly going through or what insecurities they may have.

Thank you for your vulnerability and motivation Weylie! As a kid, eating was such a difficult thing to do. I was so skinny to the point where you would see my bones and my mom would comment that I'm too skinny. Then I started to stress eat because I became disgusted of myself of being too skinny and now I'm obese. Now, I'm struggling with my bodyweight and have let myself go for so long. This year, I really want a change for my health. You got this Weylie! We both got this!

I admire how even-keeled and nuanced your mindset is. Wanting to improve your body doesn't mean you hate yourself. And loving yourself doesn't mean not improving. I think that's why body neutrality is gaining popularity. I think the problem with body positivity was that it was STILL about attaching self-worth to your physical body.

If it’s a nuisance mixing food in them, you can just feed smaller more frequent meals instead if that’s easier. Much love from a big fan!

This is my second week and I have made it my new year resolution to keep consistent of going to the gym a minimum of 5 days a week. To keep myself accountable, since I dont have a gym buddy, I made a fitness tracker journal to keep me motivated. Nothing complicated but just highlighting the days I do and don't work out and I hope I see more consistent days by the end of this year :) I'll be heading to the gym tomorrow 😌👍 thank you for the pep talk! 🙏💪🤗

i think the whole "you should love your body" thing is more about noticing there is a clear standard of beauty and an ideal body type set by society and that it shouldn't be exactly what you should look like. If you're gonna workout and eat better make sure it's because YOU want to make a change and feel better and not because you're influenced by the media. And set realistic expectations for yourself! your "ideal" body type may be too different and basically not possible to achieve (let's say u wanna be taller, or have longer legs), so learn to accept and love what you can't change. You can work on the rest if u want to, but don't be too harsh on yourself.

I’m in my late 20s now and I stopped “caring”, as you said, around 21 because every time I tried to get fit I felt discouraged by those comments saying I’m already thin, whats the point, I never gain weight, etc etc. Well now Im approaching 30 and I’m SO unhealthy from all these years of fast food, I’m weak, unmotivated and yes I’m still skinny or whatever but I do not feel the confidence I did like when I was 20 and I feel like my health in general is going downhill lol.
