Food insecurity is a growing concern as Hawaii's high cost of living continues to put a strain on many local families. And now a huge rent hike could put family farmers who provide much of our local produce out of business.

This is beyond RIDICULOUS!! Kanaka maoli cultivating mea ‘ai and perpetuating our traditional practices on ‘āina that, by law & by right, belong to the people of Hawaiian ancestry - HEWA!!!!

Come on, these families should be subsidized. Support our farmers! Why raise rents? Just because you can?! Auwe!

This news cast did not deliver any details. " huge" and "six fold" are not accurate terms for a news story. Show us the actual details and numbers, instead of twanging with our emotions.

Just because Hawai'i is a state, that doesn't mean Mainland Prices.

I cannot imagine living in Hawaii. wow. I am from Michigan. Hawaii is so far away. I like fresh water better anyway.

The state shouldn't wait 10 or 20 years and then jack up rent that much in one year. They should raise the rent around 4% or 5% every year just like for apartments.

So there is a threshold for arable land to population ratio. China turned its farmland into housing. Then they ran out of farm land that couldn't be turned back into farm land. Then they bought 42% of the world's grain because they have food insecurities. So why are we diminishing even an iota of land? Gentrification of Hawaii residents to Las Vegas is already bad enough. Anyone want to point out a flaw in my logic?

Hawaiis cost is driving out locals. Locals/Kanakas no longer will be able to afford to live at home. Thats why me and my family had to move mainland. 😔
