Wait Is Gholdengo Actually Good?

My first impressions of Gholdengo was not great but after putting a little more time into the deck I think I have found a build that is actually really good

I've been playing around with using Dodrio. It helps to keep drawing into more energy or energy recovery.

Gotta run a normal energy retriever. It helps in those situations when you don’t wanna discard 2 to add 4 with the super energy retriever

I highly recommend adding Hisuian Basculegion 1 line, i’ve found more use out of it than scizor

I strongly recommend going to 11 energy. I had 10 for a while because I wanted to squeeze in an extra card but you so often want to see one more energy that going to 11 made the most sense. It’s wild how much smoother the deck plays with 11 energy. 12 might be even better but that seems excessive to me without further testing

Earthen Vessel is also broken with Adaman. I don't see many Gholdengo players using Adaman which is a little wild.

I'm new but so i could be wrong. But Isn't the worker doing two things it gets rid of path if necessary too. So its a draw and a counter. In my experience path can be death sentence to this deck since its so power dependant. Plus this deck has so much draw power those extra two cards aren't really necessary in most cases.

If you play 4 colress why not just play a cram as your single prize attacker instead? Could be cram and that new 280 dmg tm once that releases instead of scizor scyther

I’ve been playing Gholdengo ex since the release. I’ve been playing Arven TM build. I’ve had good success, but strangely struggle against lost zone decks. I keep going back and forth between including Manaphy and Jirachi. Is cumbersome to have to get both out in play, and I can get by without them if I get all my basics evolved so they can’t take 2 prizes in 1 turn. But the Tina and Charizard builds are also strong against Gholdengo. A path / Roxanne combo can completely cripple my draw.

Honestly I think a card people have forgotten about is zinnias resolve like usually there is cards in hand you don’t mind discarding and most decks in this format go wide on board and so zinnias for a discard 2 draw 6 is kinda insane

I'm also on the offense about Scisor. I love Gholdengo as a deck but figuring out a good Pokemon line can be tough. Even considered a Zamazenta.

I like the mon. Its just weird how other Types like water or fire have like 200 Different engines to play, and steel somehow end up with Adam, which also is bad.

I play a one-of, and I've been playing the 151 Dodrio for even more draw As well as running Worker to help deal with Path To The Peak

The problem is it’s only good turn 2 or 3 after you set up your board. If it’s your only supporter T1 then you’re more likely to brick. Plus, late game you might not even have 4 energy left after thinning with Earthen Vessel. So you have to play at least 3 to see them early enough but then you really only ever want to see one of them. Seems suboptimal.

I run a 2-2 line lilligant V-star. It really works amazing! Turn 2 you can easily attack for 300, and you can still play a supporter like a Boss. Very hard to recover from that for your opponent. When your deck is so much thinner, it's more easy to find the items you need.

​@@becuzimgod you can. But not consistently on turn 2. And when the energy is out of your deck on turn 2, it makes finding your reteievers a lot easier. Give it a try, it works great for me

I've been a similar build with focus on 100% gholdengo without draw but with tm evo and feels so so good, 2-3 gholdies on turn2 feels really strong

I had a question to the creator or anyone who could help. I unlocked “lady” the trainer card from the reward system but it’s not in my cards/deck. Do you guys know what happened or what I could do?

It's probably a variant sometimes they don't show up if you don't have the common version. Try show unearned cards, then search for lady and go through the variants of the card.

Not a fan or colros, path I've see 3 of in dark decks atm. 3 switch is great due to snorlax stall. I meh on avrin trying fund a main supporter to use in first couple turns roxanne is amzing in the deck late game. Beaver is better or the vroom. Ad far as spice echoing horn is great arm for 1 of. Scizor is great vs gardy n lost box . Not a fan of the TM but it can't be broken going second attaching to mew . Tool jammer is om so far too in list.

I’d cut Roxanne for raihan and artozan for poke stop . Nest ball for fog crystal and change the grass and water energy to psychic energy. Genuinely feel like the item focused build is way better

I ran the Poke Stop build and tbh the Arven build feels better. Nearly guaranteed at least 1 Ghold by turn 2, can often have 2 of them if you don’t evolve your support Pokemon. I haven’t played the version in the video yet. I might swap an Iono for Roxanne
