For me, three big reasons to save old models is (a) to see how far you've gone, (b) because they're a piece of history, and (c) you never know when you'll use them. It doesn't even have to be in the original game! I've got a whole bunch of early 1990s pewter Brettonian models, and the unpainted/marginally painted ones have found a wonderful home with my Frostgrave mercenaries. Meanwhile, my metal Hellhound made a nice display piece to go alongside my Krieg killteam. Though in retrospect, I *deeply* regret removing the paint from my old sorceress - lost some history there. But the minimally painted stuff? Fair game!

There is a problem with these new giant-size miniatures: They are fragile as hell, and I think they are deliberately designed to be fragile. I've got an Archaon Everchosen still in progress; it's fully assembled but I broke a chain and a crow while building it (I am quite careful handling models) and the way it's supposed to secure ot the base is a joke; no amount of polystyrene cement is ever going to make it secure, so I ditched the plastic base for a wooden coaster base, added some scenery and pinned the tail into the scenery and heavily glued the scenery so that nothing would break off under the weight of the model. I added a rock-wall piece at the back to act as a handle. I reckon the Archaon Everchosen model normally has a lifespan of about two games before it gets badly broken to the point where it would have a badly reduced resale value. Also, if you ever build on of those things, be ready to run the wing parts under hot/boiling water to bend them into correct position, they do not go together easily. I wish I had; even after much sanding and filling there is a visible gap. I would also run a piece of brass rod all the way through the tail & body (and fill with milliput) BEFORE assembly as reinforcement. Something I noticed about old school metal miniatures is that they make much better figures as playing pieces; I'm not sure if that's by design or coincidental, but they are compact and rank up nice and square like chess pieces.

@@herculeholmes504 I don't know the Archeon model very well (40k player only). But let me tell you this: glueing the old Metal Belakor together took me 35 tries with diffent superglues and green stuff. I permanently lost a piece of his tail. His feet don't place on the base well. His sowrd hand still falls off sometimes. The plastic one fits like a glove, is very secure on his base and his big wings I magnetized (easy with plastic models) for transport, but they would have fit perfectly as well.

Personal preference: would've done less white on the face. It's flat ghostly. Would've liked some yellow in the base glow for fresh hellfire look. Gonna agree as well. Despite saying you could raise older models up or do something interesting with the base.. Nothing was really done. @@eBayMiniatureRescues Yeah, the heat can help like that, but don't sit them in there too long. As far as playing the old models, everyone's play group is going to be slightly different. In competitive 40k the general rule of thumb for this is that your model should still resemble the new one as well as cast a similar silhouette. If its questionable if your model can be seen or see, your opponent generally gets to make the call. This is not so much specifically rules regarding new versions of models, but rather a rule meant to prevent modeling for advantage (which is a whole different issue) new vs old versions of models just happen to get caught in the crossfire. If you are ever unsure, ask your TO. If its a casual game, just let your opponent know before hand and if theyre upset you dodged a bullet anyways....

Base size only becomes an issue in tournament play. If its casual pickup game at a local store or in your friends kitchen then last I checked unless they changed it, models are to be based on thr base they're supplied with. Now if that base size happens to.be smaller tham current but it was the size the model you have was supplied with on issue, then leaving it on the same size is fine. Only tournaments would make a.stink because of measuring distances. If.you rolled up and dropped some old space marines terminators for.chaos and this guy, I wouldn't say a thing. The distances hurt and help you and me so there's no real advantage gained or.lost.

I mean I suppose change the base is not enough … you have to do a proper diorama to “reach” the right size… Ibsuppose

I have 2 WHFB Demon princes thats been staring at me for 5 years + and an airbrush Im scared to use forore than priming. Ive been too afrid of wrecking them to paint. I've decided Im going to totally rip off your paint sceme with the airbrush. And not care if it sucks. Hell I can always post them to you 'rescue' 🤣

40 bucks for a broken finecast belakor? That's more than the original price of the model oO

Yeah they don’t come cheap anymore since they don’t make them, and the new one is like $120, so what can you do…other than not buying it at all lol.

I know you said no money was exchanged but I think a printer at that price counts as "monetary".
@eBayMiniatureRescues2 жыл бұрын
Kind of. I know what you mean, and how it seems, but I get emails all the time asking to do a video in exchange for a printer. Normally I have a sponsored fee for a video, not including the printer, lots of companies say no, or have strict guidelines for videos. Elegoo said they would do some sponsored stuff at a later date with another printer, and then proceeded to send me this one for nothing. No obligations or contracts, no money exchanged for a job to sponsor a product. Turns out, it's a very good printer, so I wanted to share my thoughts. I'm sure that's part of their plan, but I could have sold the printer in the box new and they would have never asked me about it again, so it seems fair.

@@chadmrrsn but why? Why would you spend that much money on a shitty model? Save up for a cool new belakor or just don't run belakor. Don't waste 40-50 bucks on an old destroyed finecast model. There's so much more you can do with 50 pounds.

@@chadmrrsn if you don't want to support the company don't play their game... what a wierd logic.
