@@XCodes I mentioned this elsewhere while twinning staff doesn't double the effect its still valuable with it as one can pay 7 and get a triple cast. Usually that portion of twinning staff is restrictive cause adding 7 to an expensive spell very hard. But paying just 7 for say 3 extra turns or mind slaver the whole table is strait game ending

I am so excited for Unfinity. The Unsets are one of the reasons I got so into Magic, so when I found out we were getting a new one, I couldn't have been more happy. I expected to be able to pull some interesting stuff for my commander cube, but later learning we'd be getting so legal commander cards in the new Unset made me pretty much burst at the seams. I have been building a home for Space Family Goblinson to slot straight into. I've built a dice-rolling and random effects deck with Riku as the commander to double up on the effects. I also decided just yesterday that I am putting Alexander Clamilton and other not game breaking but silly Unset cards of the past into my deck as swap-ins. My silly deck might be my most fun deck I have ever built.

@meteorite It does leave the graveyard it get's morphed into a 3/3 Facedown card on the battlefield and then imprints the 3/3 that comes into play essentially has Imprint the instant or sorcery on this card. and has when this creature damages an opponent you may make a copy of imprinted spell and cast without paying its mana cost.

Other ways to make them unblockable would be to include whispersilk cloak or Trailblazer's boots. This may also make them think aboit what to use their removal on: destroying the artifact instead of the creature may only prolong the effect but it does deal with possibly worse future spells being unblockable.

This is just an issue with the rendered digital image. The real printed versions of the card are consistent with oval holo stamp. Overworked teams at wizards make mistakes

Good video and interesting commander. I think Grenzo fit in the deck perfectly as a way to fill your graveyard. Activing grenzo means inmediate value if there is a creature in the bottom or later value if is a spell for your commander.

One big subset of cards you missed here are the Extra Combat spells like Relentless Assault, World at War, and Fury of the Horde. Make them unblockable for the turn with things like Rogue's Passage or Glaring Spotlight, and then you get infinite combats until everyone's dead.

Most extra combat spells only work during your main phase (“after this main phase” is very literal). World At War can give you only one additional combat due to the “first postcombat main phase” part. Only Savage Beating can get you infinite combats.

Twinning Staff won't work with this commander. It was stated in the rullings of Twinning Staff: If an effect copies a card rather than a spell (such as that of God-Eternal Kefnet), this doesn't cause an additional copy to be created. You do not create a copy of a spell - commander clearly states that you create a copy of a card, which you can cast without paying its mana cost

Double vision gets around that issue sure it's once per turn, but it does solve that small problem. Plus you can just activate twinning staff. Unless twinning staff needs a physical spell in general.

Imagine building this with lots of discard, reanimation, and platinum angel. Also sundial of the infinite effects. Then imagine stuffing all the final fortune and warriors oath cards in there. Then imagine adding some unblockable in there. Cast a cheap extra turn spell, make it into a creature with the commander, prevent the loss at end of turn, then next turn start swinging with an ublockable creature that gives you another turn every hit. Seems powerful!

It doesn't work with Void Maw because the 3/3 spell-creatures would never be going to the graveyard per Magar. And Void Maw can only bring back cards exiled with its own ability.

What I would want to do with this commander is find stuff that removes all abilities from a creature and then bounce that instant or sorcery creature back to hand to reuse the spell. At least have some of those effects in the deck to save key spells just in case.

@@Bob-Barian If you remove the abilities with something like Ovinize it would. When that instant or sorcery comes in as a creature it is gaining those copy and exile abilities. If you remove those abilities you can return it no problem.

There's several red spells that can give haste to creature to make it attack immediately after the ability and another good card to play with the copy is lightning greaves or swiftfoot boots Also ovinize is a blue spell so it can't work with this commander

Also In my experience with Tameshi....people love seeing you use a 5 card combo to lock them out of the game and win with infinite mindslavers...it's not taboo if it's a valid win con. So I'd say make sure you can set up worst fears in an infinite loop and lock everyone out of the game. Blade of selves and a way to make your creatures unlockable would be good. Each player gets a 3/3 at them that then takes their next turn, which you could say is just untap upkeep draw pass phases clean up end with tapping them out of mana...which effectively is... I win.

[[Skirge Familiar]] lets you do the same, but gives you {B} for each card discarded, meaning you can pay for Magar's ability a bit easier. [[Dark Ritual]] and [[Seething Song]] give you mana when their tokens hit, which lets you dump more of Magar's tokens on board. The two combined gives 8 mana, which is 2 activations and only 1 shy of the third. Just remember to spend the mana before combat phase ends. Get something like [[Anger]], [[Barbarian Class]], and [[Urabrask the Hidden]] give all your creatures haste, so you can use Magar's ability several times, then immediately swing with everything. And of course you can take stuff like [[Diabolic Tutor]] or [[Demonic Tutor]] to dig for your big wincons every turn. Finally, if you want to be super annoying, throw in a [[Smallpox]]. Every time the token of that hits, each player has to discard 1, sac a creature and a land. Discarding actively helps you, and your board will have plenty of tokens so it won't hurt you as much as the other players. Sac'ing a land kinda sucks, but its a small price to pay.

I think I would play a bunch of rituals and all the red extra Combat spells. In terms of creatures I would go with the whole Guttersnipe package also og purphoros and so groupslug and outvalue the whole table. Since I prefer lower mana curve this kind of a build would fit my playstyle a bit more.

No the cast is immediate upon the combat damage trigger resolving. This does however ignore casting conditions, yes you can cast a sorcery off the trigger.

To do so, the player uses the Oracle card reference to determine the characteristics of the copy and creates the copy outside of the game. Wouldn't this rule apply here as well, though? Since you're making a copy of a card by name, not a copy of a cast spell, would that not be the same as "put a card with the same name as the noted spell into your hand"?

Cards goated. Lets basically make removal spells and tutor spells into creatures that cast said spell on combat damage. Double strike to get any 2 cards with a demonic tutor or diabolic tutor. Entomb any 2 cards into your graveyard with entomb and doublestrike. Blood for the blood god dealing 16 to each opponent and drawing 16 cards (pitching 8 then drawing another set of 8 on 2nd trigger resolution) dragons approach smacking each opponent for 6 and you can have possibly 5+ dragons approach “puppets” since any number in the deck. I will be scrapping my 3000$ doomsday and pushing this bad boy as high as i can for my new cedh commander

I played against someone with an unset commander before. I say as long as the card as no 4th wall breaking effect it should be legal. There is nothing 4th wall breaking on Magar so it makes sense that it’s legal in commander.

Random combo in standard that seems to break MTG:A Glorious Protector (in play), cast Croaking Counterpart. The token isnt an angel, so it can self-target, along with things like Quandrix Cultivator.. as long as you have a mill crab in play as well, you SHOULD? be able to play out every basic land (untapped) by your end step (likely milling your opponent into oblivion in the process). If someone with a better grasp of stack mechanics can check this I'd appreciate it. It breaks MTG:A (once you self-target the token the game hangs on your turn with no prompts to do anything, you can auto-pass your turn, but that doesnt do anything either. All you can do is concede. Thus I wonder if this actually is ment to work..?)

I feel like temporal extortion and Sadistic Sacrament would be decent cards in this too. Not cheating costs but extortion is just going to read half a players life total and sad sac removes combo pieces. Sad sac is a pet card for me though.

Noting a card and then putting it face down is such a weird mechanism. In physical play you would basically want blank tokens that you could write and wipe to use... Or you commit to a list and make a dud copy for every spell 😅 Just make it an Obosh companion deck and go face 😅

I see a lot of people getting confused about accorn cards or silver bordered cards in general. The designer of those sets Mr Rosewater, said on an interview with the KZbinr Spice8Rack (video named: "The game design GENIOUS of un-set and Silver-border [...]" At 1h31m40s) that it's perfectly ok to play with them. They're just not tournament legal for some dark reasons, but for casual play they are perfectly ok to play with. I guess this KZbin channel is about casual EDH so I don't get why people repeat that "some cards aren't ok to play"... They are, just don't use them in tournaments.

Huh... This also means "Performer" is now a legal creature type! Not that this matters, of course. The only impact it has is that we've now got another creature type that can be named as a joke (such as if someone's using the Ringhart Crest and ALL of the creatures in their deck are legendary, because they're playing legendary tribal). But in that case, there are already WAY better joke creature types, like "Badger," "Eldrazi," "Phelddagrif," and "Sand."
