1:57 i’ve had a head-canon for a while Palpatine somehow manipulated events in hopes that Vader would end up in the suit one way or another. Who was really behind Anakin’s nightmares? Palpatine. A big part of why it’s called the “Dark Side” is bc no-one can ever fully see or understand what Palpatine is doing. Palpatine believed himself to be the Sith’Ari and that the rule of two ended with him becoming Emperor, he was chasing immortality, sabotaged Vader’s suit etc. Leading up to to his ascension he got rid of anything that could threaten his position like the Night Sisters etc. After that his biggest threat was Anakin, Palpatine never intended for Vader to succeed him and going out on a limb he knew what Anakin’s fate would be if he went to Mustafar because he’d orchestrated everything. Being the brilliant actor he is, Palpatine only ever pretended to be disappointed or hate Vader’s condition.

The Kaminoans tried using clones to take power or at least defy the emperor. Realizing that he didn’t have direct control over the clone army and that the Kaminoans could just try again, Palpatine had the storm troopers replace the clone army. With only those like Thrawn being favored exceptions to command and be part of the empires forces. The Kaminoans weren’t willing to help at that point. The last remains of the clone army can be seen wearing special black trooper suits as elite experienced veterans of combat. The last clones to be produced were seen in the first ever Star Wars movie, assaulting the rebel forces serving under Princess Leia. Notice how those troops managed to hit what they shot at. Vader was used to clone troops and found them to be more effective so he had them serve him directly when military personnel were required.

This is canon where Sidious watches Vader spar with his own custom made training droids and acknowledges in lightsaber combat his apprentice would annihilate him, Sidious was simply put afraid of him alongside rest of the galaxy and rule of two. Vader had psychological issues and up to the point where he discovers he has a living son, he feels like he gave up on ambition, Sidious was not helping as pointed out he blatantly betrayed Bane's rule of two that lead the Sith to that complete triumph and vengeance over the Jedi. If Luke fell to the dark side during ESB, we'd have seen Vader upgrade immediately for final confrontation. To summarize if he had the drive to take over, he would've upgraded himself as he had resources and knowing his aptitude for all things technological and his son being alive and falling to the dark side to become his apprentice would've been a catalyst just like it was for his eventual return to the light.

I remember before Disney, reading the Old EU/Legends where it was stated that Vader never once had a break from his suit, he was in torture 24/7, there was no escaping to the soothing embrace of a bacta tank, no true sleep, no true rest, his only slight respite was afforded in that pressured capsule aboard his Capitol ship as seen in The Empire Strikes Back where he could only temporarily remove his helmet, upper mask, and cape; he had to remain in everything else, suffering.

It isn't just a new suit. Sidious didn't share his cloning and essence transfer powers with Vader either. He wanted the pure Anakin to unlock and rediscover lost force powers. But Sidious was far too afraid of a prime Anakin Skywalker. It's probably the only thing he was ever afraid of.

It was explained that Vader never upgraded his suit as a form of self hatred and punishment for his failures and for losing padme. There were no walls put up by Palpatine or anyone else that stopped him from doing it. A part of the reason Palpatine gave up on him a bit was because Vader couldn't move past what happened. It was a combination of the suit and the darkside that was keeping him alive and arguably, it was the darkside that was the deciding factor, not the suit, since Vader died when he turned back to the light even though he's been in fights where his suit was practically destroyed. I might be wrong or it might not be canon but I'm pretty sure it is.

Anakin died; information will never reach him, that his suit-body was formed around his corpse, before his spirit was necromantically returned by his master: upgrading would only remove the internal corpse; the suit is a phylactery his spirit is invested in. Upgrading would be as simple as slowly replacing every section, inches per year, organic or not, entirely.

Disney is going down the drain… Example A: Disney is almost obsessed with recycling their older animations and making them live-action, rather than focusing on making newer movies and shows that are original. This tells me that Disney has a massive lack in original thought after all of these years. Example B: Star Wars has been on the decline since GL sold it to Disney, and the Acolyte is the absolute worst Disney Star Wars ever made. Some of the newer iterations are good, but they don’t overshadow the failings of Disney in this once great story, especially with their pushing and pushing of ideology down our throats (and all of the actors and directors pushing for them getting outright slammed by the fanbase). Prediction: Disney will survive as long as they produce quality stories, but the more they push these things and muddle their own stories, the closer they’ll get to being bankrupt.

I've got news for ya, Star Wars was already on the decline before Disney even purchased it. Lucas was done after the PT. The absolute backlash he got from the hardcore fans ended it for him. What brought him back into the fold was Filoni and The Clone Wars show. If that show didn't happen, Star Wars would have been done for a very very long time.

VADER DID UPGRADE HIS SUIT. He upgraded/repaired it 2-3 times in the series. Someone wasn't paying attention. He repaired it the first time after Infil'a with a spark of anger at Sidious suggesting his droids see to it. It's also pretty obvious? that he couldn't move properly in his suit for the first months or years wearing it, from the whole getting decimated by Kirak barely a month after getting it. So every indication points to him still finding his first suit cumbersome in canon. In canon he still added more customisations to his suit, he saw to its upkeep himself, there were a few other times his master damaged his suit and he made temporary adjustments to it with whatever was around before he again properly fixed it. He had 2 or 3 different helmets over the years too, at least 2 control plates, 2 different shoulder armour pieces, and over the years parts like his boots and gloves got better and easier to use. This is not just what we can see, but what we can tell from looking at Vader over the years. While not swaying from his tall, menacing look he clearly does undergo minor changes. So i do reject that section of argument that seems to underpin all your other criticism here, i do however agree with the overarching claim that the series did seem to forget itself and go through a stale period, pointless plot lines and so on. The critique on certain details like how he and Sidious have their challenges i think is a bit harsh, if you paid much attention, their lightsaber fights are actually quite rare and only ever when they are sparring, so duelling blade to blade is literally the only aim. I still found the confrontations believable because there is meaning behind them, they have competing philosophies that get explored as they speak to each other while demonstrating their will power and force command- and with each time Sidious wins, he laughs while imparting a final deep, dark lesson to Vader for the next time. Classic Sidious. And he is always calm, never nervous because he smugly thinks he will always win so he's not worried about him ever learning from each mistake. Also Vader isn't supposed to win until rotj, that is the natural flow of their relationship and why Vader if anything is scared of Sidious when talking about him to Luke.. and if the comics depicted him defeating or stalemating Sidious, you will be right up here saying the comic was the worst thing since the holiday specials, spruking exactly what i just said, be honest.

I would say the reason why Vader was alive was just to Simply that his power was keeping him alive by force of will Hasty live long enough to say goodbye to Luke which proved how strong he was in the end but if you had a new suit it would have helped him and I am very skeptical in him somehow dying in a procedure to get a new suit he could have just kept some of the same circuits but they would be modified to fit the new suit and would actually be replenished by the new suit using something like the Star Wars version of Nano machines

I really don't buy the "oooooh, but there could be Complications during suit swapping because of Having To Turn Things Off, they couldn't possibly..." arguments at all anymore. In both Legends and canon, we've seen Vader's suit sustain enough damage that he had to manually keep most of its functions running or put off the effects of them being disabled with the Force alone, while also entering pitched combat. He could absolutely survive transference by entering a Force trance or by staying alert and hateful for the whole procedure, provided Sheevy didn't decide to throw in some complications as a _test._

This is a rough question, and it has many factors to adhere to. For instance the force itself and the effects of duality, and there are many versions of vader and palpatatine at during the 80's & 90's George Lucas okayed many books and comics from many diffent publishers dark horse probably closer in line of what George wanted in the star wars universe, but even in the 90's and 2000's games where considered Canon. In some novels palpatatine truly cared for vader for a time and vader would refuse any upgrades or generosity from his master constantly punishing himself and suffering, however it's pretty much confirmed how displeased in vader all the time. Now the force the dark side gives short term power for longterm tribute or suffering many many sith desire caporial immortality but the dark side literally eats away at your body and health what couldn't be healed would get replaced cybernetics can mess with a person's head make them unstable and with less biomatter the less control and attachment to the force you have George even calls vader a weak depressed shell of a man. The dark side uses the body and life of the practitioner it uses lower energy frequencies, anger isn't the only way to use the dark side anything can be used to trigger channeling the dark side but the dark side destroys itself. The light side is a focus yes it runs on higher frequency of energy and to channel it you must train your conscious mind to control the sub conacious mind, to be ever mindful of your actions and words so you are constantly training the mind and body and monitoring your connection through meditation. But there is the third teaching the teachings from nature itself creatures like the great bendu or nexus points like the cave in deguba or the trials kyber crystals put you through when you are chosen for one, they don't teach you the duality they mearly show you yourself the way of the force just is it is neither light or dark but just is. The jedi teachings are not wrong but miss guiding all the same, the sith teachings again may not necessarily be wrong but miss guided as well. So taking all this in accordance with the question can or should vader upgrade his suite, is he can't nore should he. To upgrade his suite would mean not only upgrading his limbs but upgrading the machines that are within side him to help him breath a surgery he could not control nor be conscious for he would not survive any type of surgery. The time on Mustafa where anakin channeled the force with anger and hate to try to stay alive helped in that moment long enough to be found but the mortal shell that was anakin wouldn't of survived any opporation without palpatatine draining the life of padme and putting it into anakin. And I highly doubt he would do that for a second time with raven a womprat.

Vader did upgrade his suit. But he specifically did not want to become comfortable in a new suit because the pain Vader's armor caused provided a constant memory of what Anakin once was. The hatred, the pain that Vader suffered was directed mostly towards himself. You take away the suit's uncomfortable nature and the constant hatred subsides. This would weaken Vader since his strength was fueled by this self hatred.

It's great to see someone acknowledge this! I honestly think Disney has reduced this franchised to such a mangled state after the 2012 erasure. We had a universe that was fleshed out and deep as Warhammer 40K, something that had so many creators and input from so many minds, now it's just sad to see it very much caters towards the casual opinion and hype culture cultivated by superhero franchises. I wish, at the very least, they continued Legends. Canon is not for me. They promised to develop a uniform franchise in line with Lucas' vision, and they mostly failed. Legends will always have the main timeline, especially after ROTJ.

Should Vader have? Yes. YES. He'd lost everything and without getting the scales to balance out; they were very much in favor of Palpatine - the one person who did the most damage to him. Taking the risk would've opened up other options, like better prosthetics and treatments. Vader would have a stronger hand to play.. In fact, when Palpatine realized Vader was useless other than an enforcer, should should've ended him. This would've allowed Palpatine to groom a much better replacement, if he didn't dissolve the rule of two rule. I would've loved to see Palpatine use his force lightening on Vader with little affect. I would've loved to see Vader test his suit out, similar to Iron Man with all the custom mods that could be applied.

Palpatine could have easily helped Anakin survive while putting him in a much stronger suit/ armour, he just didn’t want to after his defeat to Obi-wan. Palpatine never did anything to help, teach or pass on important Knowledge of the darkside to Anakin

He could use Bescar and be invincible, he could optimize this bescar armour magnetically and be protected from lightning also. WHY he did not do any of these things? He is a mechanical genious in the end... And he did not need anyones help to finding ways to upgrade his armour, Bescar plating and magnetic optimization does not require him to change any of the life support systems that has high risk of fatality during upgrades. so by just upgrading outer shell of his armour together with upgrades on the limbs for more mobility and strength he could be even more stronger than Anakin ever was...

Marvel/Disney, sure I could see him upgrading his suit as he doesn't have that hatred. His legends version did towards himself with legend vader himself, seeing this as punishment of failing to save padame.

I think it's be interesting if they did an alt timeline where he did modify his suit. It'd need to be clear it was a what if situation and pre og trilogy but I think it'd be cool to see Vader what he could be if he made the best suit he could. Beast mode Vader just for fun!

To realise that after anakin was was defeated on mustafar and darth vaders suit was made with a lot of tinkering so he couldn't handle electricity and he didn't have his full potential he still fk wrecked everybody everyone was afraid and if you wasn't you would be but if he wasn't defeated on mustafar you wouldn't need a death star to destroy alderaan 😮

Personally I think Vader resented his suit and technology in general when compared to the force. Of the death Star he said"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force." On top of that Star wars in general didn't use much in the way of power armor. The only real applications were specific military ones. Mandalorian crush gauntlets were illegal at least in the New Republic. Even boba Fett's armor was more about containing sensor arrays and mounts for weapons then physical augmentation. Darth Vader seem to ignore any benefits his armor gave in favor of the force. Anakin Skywalker was fast and nimble and acrobatic while Darth Vader calm and cold. Darth Vader never ran and I don't think that was a limitation of his suit. Darth Vader asserted his dominance by walking towards you. A last thing to note is that Lumiya in the legacy of the force series stated that losing so much of yourself hampered your ability to grow in the force.

It has been told many many times, surprisingly you didnt mention it, Vader could have uograded his suit and wanted too, at first. Palpatine didnt allow it, and vader had to obey, he learned to use his pain and anger to make him more powerful then even Palpatine thought possible at that stage , vader although not what Palpatine wanted, was always impressed how vader just wouldnt die or lose! By the time Palpatine said he was fine with vader upgrading his suit, vader didnt want to. He calmed the risk was to high , but in truth he wamted to suffer and be in pain, torture himself.

What if Dave Filoni is tanking Star Wars to get it out of the clutches of Disney so that they’ll sell the Franchise to a different company he’s the chief executive producer over the franchise. This way he doesn’t have to adhere to Disney’s “DEI” policies. I feel like he knows that Star Wars is not going to last under the conditions it’s in.
