The genius of season 1 is how Michael is constantly saying and doing things that makes everyone panicked, scared, ashamed, or miserable, and yet it always happens in a way that we don't view his behavior as villainous. It's only when you look back that you see how diabolical he's been the whole time.

His little spiel about frozen yoghurt!

I noticed most of what Micheal did during Season 1 was just written off as "wacky sitcom hijinks" like he kicked a dog into the sun and most of us glossed over one of the blatant hints something was off
@Sinewmire Жыл бұрын
@@BaconNuke yeah! I bet they had a lot of discussions in the writers' room over just how far they could go without it being obvious and someone said "have Michael kick a dog!" and someone else probably added "into the sun!"

Even the directors of previous episodes didn't know about the twist, so there's a couple of times Ted Danson needed to go to Mike Schur and tell him the direction he was being given would undermine the twist so Schur had to overrule the director without giving away the twist.

Out of all the philosophers they discussed this season, the ONE that they didn't bring up was Jean-Paul Sartre, who (among other things) wrote a play called "No Exit." Which is entirely about a hell that merely consisted of putting just the right combination of people together to make each other miserable forever.

Glad you weren't spoiled on the twist. I think the show deals with memory issues really well. Also, you should not worry about the show repeating itself as all seasons move pretty quickly with its very clever plotting.

A construct of a puppy...not real...totally not a demon coming up with an excuse to justify kicking a puppy into the sun...

I have been waiting for your reaction to this episode! This just made my day! Once you get through the series, I recommend re-watching season 1. You'll catch so many things that you missed now that you know the twist.

Bonus of doing reaction I kinda rewatch the episodes when I'm editing, so many drop and hits throughout season 1

Pay close attention to a certain remark Eleanor makes to Chidi when he brings her home after Tahani’s party regarding where she thinks her parents are!

Most of the cast weren’t aware of the twist either. Only the two with production responsibilities (the actors playing Michael and Eleanor) knew. There is a video on here of them being told by the show runner so you can see their reactions.

Also read somewhere that most of the actors (except Jason's actor) thought they were about to be fired

This was one of the best twists I've seen for a show in a long time and one of the things I like about Michael's character in particular, is that a lot of the stuff about him, like him collecting human things and having an office full of stuff from earth as well as just other aspects of his personality actually being a true constant throughout the entire show, just him being like this Demon that clearly has a lot of connection to the earth and to people, despite not wanting to fully admit it to himself and we see as the show goes on how he can be very morally grey, showing that unlike some of the other Demons he's actually not all bad, which I think makes him an interesting character and is one of the reasons why him and Elanore get along really well and carry the show, them being so alike shows us a lot about who Elanore is as a person and her growth Throughout the show as well.

In case you're wondering which of the four seasons of The Good Place is best, the answer is "Yes".

I was looking forward to this reaction since the day you started these Good Place reactions and your reaction did not disappoint. The twist is genius and is something that when you first hear it, you find it hard to believe but than once you start to think about it explains so much. In fact, when you go back and watch Season 1 a 2nd time you pick up on these little things that were there along but you don’t notice on your first viewing. The Good place has lots of great twists so far and some more great ones to come, but this one is one of the best. Looking forward to seeing your reactions to Season 2!!!

Yesss~ loved your reaction!! Such a brilliant twist and it just makes the show even more interesting when you realise how much both the audience and the humans were manipulated. 100% with you on amnesia tropes! But like you said, if the situation becomes MORE interesting with the dramatic irony of the audience fully understanding the whole situation, as well as the amnesia not being shoehorned in, but actually making sense, amnesia can be an interesting plot device. Super excited for your s2 reactions~ 💕

Season 1 is fun to rewatch when you know the twist because you start to notice all the tortures and it puts everything into a new perspective

This was the reaction video I was waiting for. And if you go back and rewatch season 1, you'll see it. Also, the final episode of the final season is one hell of a tear jerker. There isn't a man alive that didn't cry his eyes out at the end.

This is one of the most masterful plot twists in any show I've watched, because nobody sees it coming. And it puts EVERYTHING into perspective and you just sit there and realise how many clues and giveaways there were and you just never realise
