the whole idea of her not even knowing how sex works was so funny and weirdly executed to me, especially when it came to her getting pregnant
@TonksTheFool9 ай бұрын
@@theo-nr6oe I mean that was the knowledge women had back then (it's a fictionalised space but they kept the core parts the same, like how women's everything revolved on being a wife and making kids all while not even teaching them how it happens. that was the 'mans job' to instruct them. also why a lot of women could get easily tricked into loving a man then being left 'ruined'. there was a HUGE huge emphasis on purity and innocence). Unless you were married and already had kids, the women just DIDN'T know. There was a whole point of her being mad at her mum for just not telling her, too. she had to figure it out on her own. added note: Eloise and her friend were well read women but even they hadn't encountered ANY books detailing it. They were just as shocked in the series that a woman could get pregnant while not being married, that was to show how little they genuinely knew about all those things

Are people missing the whole point that women weren't told about sex as it was improper and would literally ruin their lives if it was done before marriage? Actually, corsets weren’t the rib-crushing, organ-displacing and incredibly uncomfortable garments many seem to think they were. They were the early version of bras, worn for support, a slimmer looking waist and a better figure, but they were rarely ever that tight like we see in films and series. There was a small population of women in the 19th and early 20th century who did tight lace,but it was rare and not the norm of the time.

I was looking for this comment! It's so sad that the majority of people still believe in "corset = torture". I mean, literally every woman wore a corset back then and they did shit like farm work and sports, so obviously it can't be this horrible, breath-stealing device meant to undermine women?? (Not forgetting that some people today wear them for medical reasons too of course) So why do people still believe this myth??

Actually, corset were perfectly safe and do not crush bones. The cinching part of the corset is at the waist where the floating ribs are(the last set of ribs who aflexible and move out of the way easily pike when a woman is pregnant). They do reduce the amount of space your lungs have to expand though so you learn to breathe differently (through expanding your chest instead of your diaphragm and belly.)

The show has 8EPs per season, he should’ve watched 4 instead of 2. I feel like that’s super lazy on reactors when a show isn’t that long. He could’ve just watched 1, 3, 5, 8. "They had to have done some research on corsets." If they had done literally ANY research at all, they'd have known that *corsets weren't invented until after the regency period.* Regency women wore "short stays." Stays are kind of like a corset in that they support from the waist, except *they're impossible to tightlace.* The short stays that were worn in the Regency more closely resemble a modern bra because... they were SHORT. It also doesn't matter if they're wearing corsets or not because THE EMPIRE WAISTLINE HIDES THE NATURAL WAIST.

i swear they wore corsets in the medieval period tho?? like around the 1500s or so.

Corsets were invented around 1000BC, similar garments were featured in art works. Corsets were most commonly worn is Victorian era, however corsets or similarly looking garments actually invented long time before the Regancy period lmaooooo
@tigeresssa52089 ай бұрын
@@hinasakukimithere’s a difference between “stays” and “corsets”. Stays are the original “corset” and have been around for actual thousands of years but were never made with metal and could only be laced up. They tended to only produce a conical silhouette. The “Corset” is suggested to be a product of the Industrial Revolution as mass production of metal and the invention of a busk closure ultimately changed stays into corsets. A corset is more likely to alter the silhouette beyond just conical as there was more ability to tight lace.

Corsets are actually notoriously misconstrued in media. Tight lacing is a technique to make you look tighter and that was added with getting a size too small of a corset. Thats people who did it on purpose for the extremes. Regular everyday use was pretty healthy day to day.

Each story is a different romance trope! So, for Daphne, it’s fake dating. Anthony is then enemies to lovers, Benedict is pretty much Cinderella, Colin is friends to lovers (etc etc). Season 2 was Anthony’s story, and season 3 will be Colin’s, and it is my hope that we’ll eventually get through all of them! Benedict’s story is my favourite, I hope it’s renewed for a season 4 so I’m not robbed of it😂

Actually the modern image of corsets is largely misleading . For the most part they worked like bras. They weren’t used like shapewear the way we do now. Especially in the regency era when the show is set. Like if you look at the dresses, the column like shape of empire dresses were not even designed to show of curves. It flows straight down from the bust line. What would be the point of cinching your waist only to cover it up like that. The reason we see it so often in movies and tv shows is it’s kind of an easy visual metaphor for the social conventions but not necessarily historically accurate to how they would be worn in that time.
