I really love the core idea of this game! I just wish all the gameplay wasn't just bland, kinda janky third person shooting. I would have loved every level to be it's own unique thing with different gameplay mechanics. 1st level = 3rd person shooter 2nd level = RPG 3rd level = 1st person shooter, etc. But the writing and story are really fun! I love all the 4th wall breaking stuff. Is Blood Bath and Beyond better than this? Let me know!

Return of Matt Hazard gets better, the writing saves it along with different set pieces and crap, heck one of the later levels is just Wolfenstein 3d in all but name, it's definitely worth playing more Matt Mcmuscles, just for the writing alone.

I really wanted to enjoy this game. As it’s an interesting concept. And it has some funny moments. It’s just too janky for it’s own good though. And there’s a massive difficulty spike towards the end. The final boss was an absolute chore.

I think you should do a full LP of this. the game does get more interesting as you fight bosses from other genres Yeah it be nice if this game was like remastered and polished up and wish this game was ported to pc too.

The best part of this game is when you fight "Altos Tratus" (altostratus = a cloud) who holds a giant sword and talks with JRPG-style text-boxes that Matt has to press A to advance. The trophy is called "Your Turn" too. but yea even though it can be pretty funny at times and i like the idea of videogame characters being aware of each other Wreck-it-Ralph style, it doesn't play very well, just room, cover, shoot, move, room, cover, shoot, repeat. also not only is that Will Arnet, the antagonist is voiced by Neil Patrick Harris

Fastest click on a KZbin video in a long while, Eat Lead is one of my favorite forgotten games. :> The gameplay unfortunately never shakes very far from the same generic third-person shooter formula and the humor is hit-or-miss, but the premise alone keeps it interesting the whole way through and there's some major comedic gems along the way.

As far as I know, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is actually the first game featuring Matt Hazard. It was more of a parody of action-adventure tropes and other gaming tropes at the time. Not super great but I found it to be enjoyable if you were in the mindset of poking fun on the game industry along with the devs, most likely.

So, X-Play covered this game for awhile, and loved the concept, and I was getting into the humor and hype, but then reviews came in, they still loved how funny and meta it was, but hated everything else (the review is still up too). They spoof EVERYTHING, and it works, most of time (Halo, Duke Nukem, Mass Effect, Wolfenstien, JRPG's, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Mario and old school games galore), but woof, that Gears gameplay was new then, but still looked played out. Also, besides this, Vicious Circle did a EDF game, and then a bunch DreamWorks/Ben 10/Pac-Mqn/Adventure Time cartoon tie-in shovelware games, was bought by Little Orbit (APB Reloaded) until it's closure in 2016. What a way to go out.

I was interested in this game when I first saw it on store shelves and managed to play it to the end. I remember everything from space marines to troopers with water guns to sniper sections to a kraken to zombies that didn't die unless you shot them in the head (and later, slain enemies would turn into zombies) and other stuff. It was neat, but you have to have a tempered will if you're going to beat it. It doesn't have enough variety throughout its playtime to hold your attention. Maybe if it made its sections shorter?

I remember this game. Yeah, it wasn't the best gameplay-wise, but it had good ideas and I liked the meta humour and references behind it. I think that if someone tried again with an idea like this and did a few things differently I think it could be real good. No, I definitely wouldn't have paid full-price for this game, but when I got it I paid ten bucks for it and I'd say it's definitely a deal for that.

Ah, yes. Vicious Cycle. They made my favorite PSP game, Dead Head Fred. I'd say you should play it, Matt, even if it's just on your off time. Fred's played by John C McGinley (Dr. Cox from Scrubs) and it's just fucking hilarious. The combat is a little jank, but the game is so worth it. I truly wish they'd do a remastered port of it or something. It was a gem. Too bad there's not an easy way to record PSP games unless you emulate them.

It's a shame... this game could have been a great cult classic if the writing was a bit sharper and the gameplay was... y'know... fun. It's like they blew the whole budget on the cast and forgot that they had to actually make a game until the last minute. The Deadpool game did a much better job at poking fun at the medium while still being enjoyable. (although even that game wasn't all that amazing. Still, I liked playing it. Can't say the same about Eat Lead)

I think this is one of the few games I actually 100% for achievements. The gameplay is super janky but, the comedy made it worth atleast one play through. The FF7 parody boss fight and flat sprite Wolfenstein soldiers were hilarious.

I absolutely agree that Far Cry Blood Dragon's jokey tutorial went on too long. I was annoyed with the game after only the 20 minute mark just going like "Can I enjoy the game yet? Or are you gonna force this aesthetic and hokey humor every 2 seconds?" It ended up being a good game, but man, that opening was silly.

The end levels are bonkers. With enemies from all of Matt's previous games showing up. Some levels drag and some sections are ganky but the plot is enough to keep you going. And the absolute carnage the last levels have going for it. As much as some people hate this game I like it. I mean it is from a small developer so I can forgive the game for not being the best but the humour and and story are on point.

There's some pretty funny stuff later on. One boss fight is a JRPG character who has to pick his attacks from a menu, and there's also a Wolfenstein parody where the enemies are all 2D sprites. But yeah I remember being SUPER into the premise and then being disappointed at how basic the actual gameplay was.

It's not the best game but it's fun in its own janky parody way. You really didn't get to the best levels with Master Chef and the JRPG boss. Hope ya try more of the game, it does get a bit better. Can't expect too much it's a budget game but fun for what it is.

What a great premise for a game. The writing and acting really sells it. Too bad the gameplay is so unwieldy and tedious, it seems. Casting Will Arnett works so well for this kind of meta story, it's like if they made a Bojack game. He fits those roles of roles perfectly for whatever reason. It only works because it's backed up by good writing though. Worst thing ever is a badly written meta story.

Yeah, this is basically the unspoken genesis of Wreck-It-Ralph of a sardonic parody for a failed game series trying to come back, you know, before Bubsy and Sonic sold themselves as ironic has-been and never was. If the game actually was fun at its core and it could do a bit better than like Magnum Cum Loude level of humor on video game trends, you could probably pull this off. But then again, Blood Dragon barely toed that line and even it fucked up.
