If this seems 'meh' to younger people now, they have to remember a few things: 1. No one else had ever dared to go this far artistically in terms of explicit content. Really no one else has even dared to do it now, not even in videos like Anaconda or WAP. She flashed her 'secret garden' in the uncensored version of the video, as well as in her Sex book 2. This was 1990 during the height of the AIDS crisis. Showing gay men in a male strip club was SHOCKING AF to American puritanical standards. Many people thought AIDS was a judgment from god, and no one gave a crap if people lived or died, until 'innocent' white children got sick through their mother 3. Interracial relationships were still pretty taboo, as was S&M, extreme intergenerational relationships, orgies, etc. The book even has a set of photos of Madonna being sexually assaulted, which considering she was assaulted in real life was pretty shocking. 4. There were a lot of famous people who collaborated in this video (Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell, Isabella Rossellini and many other who are probably aren't well known to younger generations now), although none of them took the heat that Madonna did... They were the Justin's to M's Janet during the Super Bowl nip slip 5. Remember back then there was no Internet for easily accessible porn. We had sex magazines in bookstores, soft core movies scrambled on late night stations, VHS movies that cost at least $50-100 each, and if you were old enough and in a big enough city, you might have strip clubs or blue cinemas. Nudity was strictly enforced in North America, particularly... any imagery like this was very difficult to find. Her impact on women in music is such that music critics often talk about artists before Madonna and after Madonna. Her social impact in terms of female empowerment and feminism, acceptance of the queer community, charitable work in Africa, etc. cannot be underestimated.

This definitely was a thing back in the late 80's to mid 90's. No other artist would dare, but she did. She normalized sexuality in all it's flavors and forms.
