@Bryson Hall “you are basically just waiting to be recognized by the state to be able to do it?” But at the same time, what’s stopping couples then from simply registering their marriage at city hall then if it’s really that meaningless (but highly valued by certain people nonetheless)?
@mechadoggy
@mechadoggy Жыл бұрын
@Bryson Hall “it’s just they’re waiting to have sex until they are recognized by the state as being married” Well usually, a couple that is serious about waiting until marriage doesn’t care if they’re “recognized by the state as being married” but rather cares much more about being recognized by God as being married. I’ve never found a couple that has purposely waited until marriage for any other reason.
@mechadoggy
@mechadoggy Жыл бұрын
@Bryson Hall “and what will god give them after waiting?” It’s more that God the Father has already given them so much by sending His Son Jesus who willingly died an excruciating death on the cross so that we can have a chance of escaping divine punishment as long as we follow Jesus and have Him be their Lord and Savior. Therefore, some of Jesus’ followers are grateful for His sacrifice on the cross and obey His commands (like “waiting”) out of gratitude to Him. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)
@mechadoggy
@mechadoggy Жыл бұрын
@Bryson Hall Well, if you don’t believe in Jesus, then His laws and commands would be something that you’d likely never understand since you wouldn’t have ever received His Holy Spirit to come live inside of you.

@@jenniferjamison4912 We would make out (somewhat aggressively, some might say😅) but if our hands started to wander too much, we'd pull back. Never went past "first base," if you know what I mean 😂 But we still learned so much about each other's physical desires just from kissing and cuddling, and from talking about what we did and didn't like! Our sex communication has always been strong, and I think it's because from the beginning, we were good at voicing and sticking to our boundaries. @@kimmyymmik Marriage is a religious thing. So, probably most people who waits for marriage are religious but for some people, it can be an achievement for discipline etc. Some people also sees sex as very intimate and wouldn’t just give it easily and some like yourself maybe who thinks it is no different if you did it, then sex has no real value in a relationship. It would be nothing to the other person if it makes no difference. People have different views about it. Some people actually believes in being disciplined and it is rewarding to most people who waits for it because they truly learn and appreciate the value of intimate sex when they know they can do it anytime but decided to wait for it makes it more meaningful

@lucalage3610 I'm not saying I agree, but I think it's because in the Old Testament, there often weren't formal marraige ceremonies, and "marraige" essentially started when the couple had relations for the first time. I would like to know exactly when and why ceremonies became a necessary component of marraiges though, because to be honest, it could make sense that all it takes to be "married" in God's eyes (not in the law's eyes though), is intent to be in a permanent relationship plus the marital act (and the blessing of the bride's father).

They my mom got pregnant with my brother when she was 15, her first time ever having a sexual relationship, because sex wasn't a topic to be discussed and she believed myths on preventing pregnancy. My sister worked at a clothing store that didn't sell wedding dresses but somehow had three in stock that they needed to get rid of. There were 3. The one I chose was 75 dollars. I did spend 150 on alterations, but for a new wedding dress, it's not bad. We were going to get married in our church, but got a huge pavilion at a park for really cheap. We did all of the cleaning and decorating ourselves. (Mostly with stuff we borrowed.) My Aunt and sister made my cake. I just kept it simple with a white cake and fake florals. That ain't also made the bouquets and boutonnieres. There was a lady at church that doesn't cater professionally, but makes good food for hordes or people, so we hired her to be in charge of the food. A close family friend prepared the rehearsal dinner. Just lots of things like that. We grew up pretty broke, so we make the best with the least. I had a great group of family and friends that happily spent hours helping us get things ready. And I didn't have grand illusions and unrealisting deciaions that could only be done by professionals becuase they weren't professionals. For example for food, I told the lady our budget and asked what she would suggest and then went with her suggestion. I wasn't gonna insist on something she didn't know how to make or that didn't fit in the budget. When people help you, you've gotta accept their help for what it is. The one professional we hired was our fotographer, which was the best investment. That was actually the first thing I did planning becuase professionals don't work on short notice. Anything in the wedding that wasn't perfect, he made look perfect in the pictures. I have several budget bride friends. One ordered a dress from Etsy made for her measurements for 100.00! No alterations needed.

We waited for marriage and it’s something we will never regret. We were engaged for 6 months after dating a year and that 6 months felt like forever. If we regret anything, it was not getting married sooner! People need to have important conversations early in their relationship. And see how the other person treats the people around them. You can learn so much about a person’s true character by watching them and asking them tough questions.

“You can learn so much about a person’s true character by watching them and asking them tough questions.” Exactly! Like, what’s with all the long delays to ask tough questions when you’ve already invested so much time and energy into a relationship? Isn’t it much more efficient to ask those tough questions earlier on so as to not waste time? That way, you can more easily go past the ones that failed to answer correctly so that you can more easily move onto those who will answer correctly.

Waiting for marriage was one of the greatest gifts my husband gave to me. Seeing him at the end of the aisle on our wedding day and knowing no women from his past "stood up there" with him filled me with security. And being intimate with my husband and knowing no other woman has ever experienced him and his love before--knowing that it was all for me forever, even before he knew me--is the absolute greatest gift. It's one of the most romantic, chivalrous, self-sacrificial acts any man of good character can do for their future wife. To know he promised himself to me, and I to him, before we even knew each other, fills me with peace and makes my heart safe.

If you choose to wait till marriage, great! And if you don’t, that’s fine too! It’s great that it worked out for these two couples… but for every couple that is happy after getting married so young, there’s probably many many more who regret getting married so young, just so they can have sex. There are pros and cons to both.. people should choose what’s best for them and their partner. And purity culture can be very toxic and dangerous.

@@Aj-sn1dp you ARE a temple and how you treat yourself and your value matters. Every choice has consequences good and bad. Lots of women don't want a man of plentiful history either. Lots don't want to sacrifice their sexual health to sleep with you condom or not if you contract an incurable STD. It could affect your fertility and you financial stability. Not having multiple random sexual encounters isn't just religious, its having self respect and making good choices for your health, safety and security. Waiting until marriage can be nuts, but 10 people and its hard to believe you don't have an STD or lots of personal problems. I'm watching life from my 40's, my friends who live a bit wilder and more free aren't flourishing. I have friends in the church divorced, but mostly because the partners decided to be sexually inappropriate. Thats not religion, thats people not respecting the act of sex or their partners. It all really boils down to stop having sex flippantly at all stages of life. It never ends well.

I got married "young" by the US's current standards (21) but I wouldn't say I rushed getting married....and I waited for marriage to have sex. Through biblical principles that is one reason to marry (if you burn woth passion😂) but my husband and I knew eachother 7 yrs and were together for 3 yrs before marriage. We didn't premarital counseling and some relationship seminars and such before marriage. I actually think if we'd been intimate (having sex) before marriage it would have blinded us more making us feel this loyalty and connection even if we weren't good for eachither. Waiting helped us evaluate more clearly if we were making the right decision to marry and spend our lives together. But I'm speaking from a Christian perspective so much of this may not hold for relationships outside the Christian faith🤷‍♀️

I’m definitely waiting :) I feel like I want to be with someone and have a beautiful connection with them because I wouldn’t want to build in a relationship where sex is the only thing that will keep it going. I don’t criticize people who don’t wait at all but personally for me I prefer waiting. Ideally as well I want someone to think like that as well but I understand not everyone will think of waiting but as long as they respect my decision with waiting I’m okay with continuing the relationship. I’ve been debated on it with most guys I had flings with and honestly it is something that I know now is red flag because I’m not trying to tell them to wait so they shouldn’t feel so strongly about it. So the person I’m with now I’m hoping can be in my future , is someone who actually respects that which I’m actually happy about. He has his past but I also don’t shame him on it because it was his own experience. I do encourage people to wait because it is very rewarding and you get hurt less in the process in my opinion. When you have found someone that you want to spend your life with it feels more special.

The husband should be able to make it equal, in terms of how many people you slept with.

Waiting was the worst thing I ever did. Talking, spending time together, enjoyed similar interests, everything was great and beautiful but then it turned out we had no physical chemistry, did not enjoy the same sexual interests, wasted so much time on someone that could have been just a great friend but we ended up hating each other in the end it ended up being a really messy break up. I truly loved this man as a person but it just didn't work out. I never waited a long time again. I'm not against other people doing it if that's what you want to do, you do what is best for you but just be aware that some people while every other aspect is beautiful sex may not be. Some people just don't have a physical or sexual chemistry. And that is ok. And it's ok to break up and move on if that is the case.

Did you guys not talk about it before doing it?

@@danieltakawi9919u can’t talk about something u know nothing about. If ur sexually ignorant, u don’t know yourself, and don’t know what u like. So u can’t explain what u haven’t even learned yet. That’s y waiting is stupid. Both people can be great people, but if there’s no sexual chemistry the relationship is dead🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m someone who’s only interested in people losing their first time to someone they care about and who genuinely cares about them and who they would be happy to lose their first time to, regardless of if that’s before or after marriage. I love that you guys talked about how difficult that was for you, including the “do not recommend” part(even if that was meant for that long engagement lol).

This! I won't judge someone who waits until marriage and I won't judge someone who decides that they've found someone worthy enough before marriage. The only person who can decide if you're ready or not is you!!

But, if they genuinely care about each other, why not just get married then? If it really is true love, what’s stopping them from committing to each other?

Care for someone doesn't mean that you know you are compatable or willing to spend the rest of yout live together. And some people just don't believe that you are meant to live for the rest of your life with one person.

My husband and I waited too, it was very good for us. Our engagement was very short though! We dated a long time but our engagement was less than 4 months!
