Waiting, waiting and more waiting for the payoff

Waiting 13 hours in the wind, cold, rain and even hale may seem absurd for many, but finding this carcass so close to the west gate inside Yellowstone was too good to be true. (As my little cabin is close by)...
I got there just short of 5am and only a few magpies, ravens and a two vultures swung by for a short while. I inspected the fallen buffalo and could see a puncture wound on the neck. There was only a small amount eaten, and I dont think this sized bull has much to fear from a wolf, pack or Grizzly.. I am only speculating here but often two large bulls walking together will shake their heads to get something annoying away and one possibly gored (possibly by accident) the other and he bleed out right where he lay. Not one ounce will go to waste and I was not going anywhere until I saw a wolf or Grizzly to find it.
So 8 or 9 minutes in exchange for 13 hours may be a bit much for many, but I would do it again and again with out hesitation.

When you are out there how do you take food if you do?

Always have something back in the truck..coffee too..most days, like this one are long and staying fed is pretty easy to do in Yellowstone..other places that require much more hiking, ( like Glaciers), not so much
