Great that you took the time to do this. On a hull with more mounting options I am sure you could tune the wave more with the gate than with some of the factory systems and like you say, for the price, why not have a go. Might pick one up next time I see one.

Thanks for doing this man. I've always wondered the same thing. I wonder what it what do if you had the NSS system maxed out?

Have you tried Surf mode's double gate system?

This is interesting, but what were your NSS and NCRS Settings. I have a 2014 G25, and the 2016 hull changes some, but my experience is that it takes a while to understand how the settings tune the wave you want with a Nautique G, and I suspect the same is true with the tuning of the wave on a Malibu (which I own stock in the company, so not horribly biased Bu vs SAN). Point is, if you want a softer ramp, turn down the ncrs, and/or nss. NSS/NCRS 5/5 for steepest wave, but maybe 2/2 for a skim style wave (also longer wave), like what you said you liked. Also, the rear hull shape on a Mailbu is squared off, and then the surf gate extends beyond the back, this forms the wave further back from the boat by a few ft than the Nautique. The Nautique has the hull curve up a the back which starts the formation of the wave, (before the back of the boat) the NSS projects into this opposite the surf to disturb this formation, and cleans up the wave on the other side. The Bu has the wedge which fakes extra weight, which is nice, but there is a limit to the weight you can use to make the wave, more weight isn't always better. You also mention an 800 lb, bias. My experience in a Nautique is you don't need any bias, to form up the proper wave. I like to have a small bias, and do that by making sure we have one extra person on the surf side. However, maybe with the suck gate, you needed the weight. Fun video, thanks!

In the video we had the settings. There are tons of variables to making a wave. People just have to try more things.

@@btuff yeah, I was working and listening, went back and saw that. I didn't really think about the settings until after I had finished the video. But 1/3 is going to be a softer wave. Most people don't want the 5/5 anyway. The NSS was punching out below the suck gate, it just seems like the suck gate is just softening up the lip, maybe limiting the lip. I also think the rest of our group that was used to the Malibu, it looks like they are trying to stay further back on the wave. (cole looked closer) I suspect that if you set the settings 2/1, and speed up the boat .3 MPH, you would get simiar results has the suck gate. Still, interesting video, and I agree, trying out different waves is a cool experiment.

No gate looks way better!! That gate sucks. Adds white water to the top section which totally kills the strength of the lip 🤙. Nice going buddy ✌️

The guy you said is such a pro wasn't even surfing he was using the rope so it made no difference what was on the boat.

Why would he use a skim board and not a skim style they don’t have the same boyancy

Cuz it does 95% of the same job without dropping $1K when you can pull something out the closet. Got plenty of “Grovler” style ocean surfboards I take wake surfing.
