I came to the live after it was over, but I HAD to share that on our first Christmas together, my husband went out hunting one day and when he came home, he brought the Christmas tree with him. He had shot it down! We didn’t have an ax or saw, and we didn’t have an a have any money, but we were so happy to have that little scraggly blue spruce tree that we had to leave the house open in winterfor a day or two because it smelled so strongly! I made sugar cookies to go on it for our decorations. Oh the memories!

I have handmade crocheted balls from my Grandmother. I had received them all over my childhood, and one year my box of decorations were stolen. Grandma was so sweet, I bought a big box of undecorated balls and she crocheted them all. I lost her when she was 94 years old. I pray that I will have them my entire life. My Mom's Mom lived that long too, and my Momma is 88 now.

I am 67 years old and have never been without Christmas trees. When my youngest son was born we started buying the potted Eldarica Pines. They are drought resistant and have the long needles. They grow quickly. After Christmas we would plant them on our land. To keep them green you just crack ice cube trays in the pot. You could do that and plant them along the fence line by the road at the JL for wind block.

I ran across a horse lady on KZbin and she talked about why in a simple explanation why she keeps her girls separate from her geldings. She said the girls fight, break fences etc to settle disputes and the gelding just nudge each other sweetly. Apparently she’s saying geldings are just sweet period. I thought of Rita immediately so much like her girls. Anyway thought I would share. Love you guys and I love the horses now the most but still love all the babies just love hearing about each and every horse.

As a child, part of our Christmas was seeing the tree on Christmas morning. I don't know how they did it but, they put the tree up Christmas eve! We were so thrilled to see it in the morning!! Of course that was back when children were so innocent. I don't even decorate in the house anymore. No one comes to see it and it isn't worth the time to get it out then put it all away again. I do admit that I do miss it though. We do still put lights outside.

I’m just now getting around to decorating. Have had my tree up since right after thanksgiving. And it is gorgeous. I have two themes and rotate them year after. This year it the seashell tree for me. Next year it’ll be the woodland theme for my husband. I love them both but the ocean theme one is my favorite. Lester you need to go see the sequoia forest. You would not believe how big the trees are. There’s one you can drive through. Yes THROUGH. Highway I5 is a gorgeous drive. Also Mt. Rainier, in Washington is absolutely beautiful.

For years we got to go and cut our tree. It was while my husband was serving in the United States Air Force. But now not only am I not strong enough to cut and drag it home. Plus now I’m allergic too live trees! Getting old is not for the weak! In later years and we started having 2 main trees. The family tree is in the formal living room. And I used to put up a formal tree in the front formal dining room with my favorite things… super fancy. But not only do I not do 2 trees but I gave away my 10 ft tree away and got a 7 1/2 foot tree. To make it more easy for me to put up in my later years! While I would never use Country Crock anymore because it has so many chemicals in it. There is nothing natural in it. So I use only real butter. Or cooking oil like olive oil or are some other natural oils. That are pure! The Christmas mugs are actually soup bowls! While California is pretty but honestly Oregon, Montana, Washington, Nevada and Idaho! Or on the east coast rural New York, New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont!

Highway 1 to the South goes through Big Sur (stunning and RV not recommended even though people do it) and Hearst Castle ( must see) is in San Simeon. Highway 1 to the North will go all the way up the coast. It’s a beautiful drive and then near the California boarder into Oregon is very much like Big Sur. Would highly recommend flying into one end, renting a car, splitting up the trip into at LEAST 3 days staying at places along the coast. It would be a great trip!

I grew up pruning the low branches of our mature windbreak trees to create my Christmas tree. At least three branches needed to be full enough all around. I too used hay twine to hold it together. I had a icecream bucket covered in wrapping paper as my tree stand, and would wedge small rocks in around the bases of the branches. When that wasn't adequate to keep the "tree" from tilting I tied it to Grandma's plant hanger hook, more twine! Then loaded it with a lot of ornaments, many handmade. Hoping looking at ornaments would distract from the twine.

I fought like crazy against getting an artificial tree, but it ended up being too hard to maintain, since we would visit our grown kids/grandkids for a couple days around Christmas, and the tree would get dry if we didn't water it every day. So, I finally agreed to an artificial tree about 11 years ago. We did splurge on a very nice one, and I'm so glad we did. My husband died seven years ago, and this is so much easier to put up. Most of the ornaments are from the kids or gifts throughout the years, Every ornament has a story, and I love that. You might call it a tree of memories. 💗

All our grown children, grands and great-grands have so many other places to go for Christmas nowadays, so we don't do much entertaining or decorating. My husband likes the lights, so we have lights in the front windows and switched from a 4' artificial tree to a tabletop ceramic tree. I decorate our fireplace mantle with my heirloom nutcracker collection, garland and stockings for the 3 of us (dog included) and put a few more favorite decorations out, but nowhere near all we have. This year we had a new deck built and I decorated it with some lighted garland, our only exterior decorations, but it looks so nice. Best wishes to LE & Megan on their impending wedding. 🔔 I will be watching and hoping to see some wedding videos.
