We have no control over the warning. But we tell people is: The brand behind the kickstarter is what matters. ChessUp is an established brand and they will receive the product.”

How’s the build quality on the board. I wish they had a wood version of it. I backed it on kickstarter but I’m worried it looks too plasticy

It doesn’t feel cheap or particularly plasticy to me. I agree that a wooden ChessUp would be amazing, but I fear the prize would be astronomical. As it is I think the board is already surprisingly cheap considering that it has a touch screen, dedicated computer inside, 64 LEDs in 4 colors each, a chip inside each piece (for piece ID) and a bunch of special software for like training and lessons and stuff. Typing it all out I am actually wondering how it is even possible to sell this board at the price they do - but hey if it works it works!

@@ASMRChess yes, i agree definitely for the kickstarter price it’s a good deal. I actually got two so I can give one to my dad as well and we can play against each other while I’m living abroad. It’s a subtle thing but what I like most about it is 1) yes the LEDS but more importantly 2) the fact that you do not have to press down on the pieces to move them from one position to the other, that it’s all touch sensitive and that the board is even aware of the individual pieces. Very cool

One of the issues I have had with the first model was not being able to set up a position to play so the fact v2 supports that might mean I do upgrade but wondering if piece ID might be a new software feature and become available to first generation owners. Does anybody know if this is likely?

Good question! I went and asked Jeff from BryghtLabs (the company that makes ChessUp) and he said that piece ID unfortunately cannot work on ChessUp 1 since it requires some specific hardware inside both the pieces and the board itself. However you *can* setup a specific position in ChessUp 1 by loading the FEN string into the board from the ChessUp app. I’ve used that feature often myself for the videos.

It took me about 5 seconds. Chess 2.0 is very much about easy of use, functionality and accessibility. It borrows a lot from the original and if you are a proficient player of chess 1 you can carry all that with you to chess 2.
