I also like to set my knights up to look towards their own king at the start of the game. When I move them I don't change their orientaition, so that I always know which knight started on the right and which started on the left side of the board

The build up before the end game reminds me of a sort of hyper-aggressive, much less subtle version of Karpov’s smothering of Unzicker with how Kosalapov is basically stuck on his starting ranks for all but a few moves. Super video, as always

I’ve always used a memo technique that I invented myself to place the pieces when I was starting out. The technique involved placing the knights away from the King and Queen as for many people they’re 'dirty animals' and shouldn't be close to royalty. Since then, I haven't encountered any difficulties in placing the pieces. However, a few days ago, I found myself wondering where the knights should face. I searched everywhere but found no clear answer. Now I realize that the direction the knights face is a personal choice. Personally, I prefer the knights to face the King and Queen as it helps me remember where each knight started. I enjoy your videos; they are great to watch before sleep. ❤

hey bro! got some tips for your channel that may help to boost it a little. for your shorts, uncheck the box that says "notify subscribers about upload" when you upload the short. because of course no channel is going to have every single subscriber watch your video, not many people will click on the notification, and then the algorithm thinks "oh people aren't clicking on this guys videos so I won't recommend them to people", it's very annoying but it could help if you try this. thanks for making great content!

I always place facing the center. The reason is that the tactics I have mastered is about taking control of the center, like the english or the queen's gumbit. It reminds me what to focus on. Great question from a great asmrtist.

This game was enthralling. It only took the first couple of timid moves to have it all snowball to the stunning checkmate. Almost as stunning as the fact that I keep my knights facing forward every time I play chess.

I had always faced the knights forward before watching your videos but I immediately picked up on the knight orientation you’re using now. I think it’s great to keep track of where the knight came from but I also find it easier to grab swiftly and accurately if the flat is aligned parallel to ranks when playing my favorite time control: 3+2.

I admit I never gave much thought to how knights should face. Also I like symmetry, parallels, etc. so it mildly pricks my aesthetic sense to have them facing different ways. Thus they are always aligned facing straight across the board at the opposing side. Like a charging line of cavalry.

Great video I haven't even though about how to place the Knights before now! I have them just facing the battlefield always straight on. I don't know if its just me thinking this could be a nice little deco tactic that maybe overlooked by your opponent on the physical board.
@junglehouse24427 ай бұрын
I like to set my knights similarly to you. However, I like to angle them towards the center, and they maintain that orientation throughout the game. I imagine them seeking the knight's greatest destiny of becoming an unopposed octopus knight.
@Donato94377 ай бұрын
I set the knights up so that they both look to the right from my perspective. I dont know why but as a right i just find it easier to pick them up that way and its the way they would be represented in a chess diagram. Maybe there also is an unconcious factor of writing from left to right. Thus the knights are looking forward in some way.

Knights look forward if I’m going on the attack, or tracking my opponent’s king if I’m feeling extra spicy. The go towards the royals if I’m feeling defensive or away if I’m neutral. These are subjective to change if I’m tricking/ manipulating my opponent

Fab, great history, fun fun ending. Question: What is the point of grabbing the center when early in the game, pawn takes pawn or Knight takes pawn etc., the center explodes early in the game. Seems redundant. Is it just the way it is? Seems there should be a different way to control center. This is a v fun, interesting vid.TY
