In the Amish community he was most likely used for what draft horses are used. The pull up walls on barn raising, pull logs, pull plows, anything you use your tractor to pull or move and with pulleys lift. And often these things are very very heavy and like you push your tractor they push their draft horses with a whip. SDo he is most likely very skidish around a whip knowing it means heavy work and pain.

Lester we rescued a dog who has been in the shelter for 16 months from neglect and abuse. No one wanted to help her to much work. After 6 months she is becoming the most beautiful sweet baby. Roman is blessed to find you and Jami as that person

I feel so happy for Roman you wonder what he must be thinking about his new home. He still can’t believe this change. After living a hard life he finally had a daddy who cared for him. He must have felt his loss greatly. Now he finds himself in this new place and is being cautious. Thank you Lester for showing him so much love.

Roman has more than done his time "working". He comes from a situation where he was treated as a work implement, just like a tractor is. His feelings weren't necessarily valued and his well being included making sure he had enough food/water to do the jobs needed, but when he started showing wear and tear he was discontinued. He deserves a great retirement and doesn't need to be ridden or worked to be loved. Glad he's with you.

I live in western Pennsylvania, our Walmart has a loafing shed for the Amish to tie their horses up. One day I was parked close to the shed and witnessed an amish man whipping his horse crossed the face and then punched him in the face, it made me so sick, and I couldn't help but cry for that poor animal. So I can see why Roman is so scared, he just has to learn to trust you, and learn how to open himself up to the love you and Jami offer.

I live in very rural Ohio amish can be horrible to their animals I have a couple of ex amish belgians...they have scars and were probably 200 or more pounds underweight , were also head shy for the first few months now they're both healthy still have years of life and my grands sit on them as I walk them around ❤

I remember as a kid, draft horses got into my Dad’s garden. They were from a timber company and couple miles away. Oh so beautiful. My dad got his shot gun out to scare them. I went hysterical, so he didn’t use it.

Good afternoon Lester. Watched replay. Roman booped us as soon as you turned away and through the fence. He said no looky loo at me right now. The red halter looks great on him. The longhorns are sure being naughty going over to the neighbours pasture. Want to check out those cows but their side is so much cleaner eating. Unless they really want to forage the tall grasses. Will watch replay of the Friday noon live later on today. Waiting for my stormchaser friend to come live as we are going to Denver today to see the Christmas Lights. Will be a great time. Roman sounded like he was much loved by the man that had him but Roman has been handled by how many people since. Horses will be nervous in new situations and all the moving and new people. Horses do well with people that are very confident around them as well. Lester does good and getting better.

lester- I always fed my horses high- just to avoid getting the feed mixed with the dirt. We had one horse that had a neck artithtis issue and can't eat low. so fed her at higher lever. :D
