Wish you did the sound test without the Sundown sub. It’s misleading as far as bass goes.

thought this too, then noticed the amp was different as well. and the mids had no reinforcement, either. so it wasnt really apples to apples. the 6.5's bass should have been able to stand on its own, but in the end i think the last demo wasn't supposed to be a comparison play. more like 'here's a decent system you could do with these four parts'

I used to have realistic horn tweeters in the '80's that were inexpensive but loud and very clear. I hate that I sold them and unfortunately could not buy any more of them 😒 The sound quality was incredible. At that time they were about $8.00 a piece. Straight from Radio Shack.

The common, inexpensive horn tweeters of the 1980s-ish were generally products sold by Motorola, and later by CTS. Used in all kinds of stuff, with different lenses for different applications, for decades -- although usually only systems that were intended to be able to play very loudly. They're unique in that they are examples of "good" piezos. Interesting little buggers that can sound quite nice if properly used, with broadly interchangeable components between models. They ultimately got driven out of the market by stupid-cheap clones that mostly just kind of suck.

The 3 way components look pretty good and compared to some other brands the price isn't too outrageous but for my money you cannot beat CT Sounds Meso 3 way components. I caught them on sale for $199.99 and bought 2 sets they are hands down the best sounding speaker system I have ever owned. I have them powered by a CT Sounds 150.4 amp and a set of NVX VSP4 and DS-18 mid bass for rear fill ran off of another CT Sounds 150.4 amp along with some NVX VCW124 subs on an NVX 2700.1 amp subs are ran through an Audiocontrol Epicenter then everything goes through Audiocontrol DM-608 and I can be going 90 mph on the interstate with windows down in my truck and can hear the music perfectly as can anyone driving close to me. I have it all packed into a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 extended cab. It took a lot of fiberglass work and fabrication to keep the stock look. I made kick panel pods and fiberglassed my door panels. I made a custom 2 1/2" rear seat lift kit to make room to fit a custom fiberglass sub box under the seat. The 4" speakers in the rear went into the spot that held the stock 4×6 speakers and I made fiberglass enclosure to hold DS-18 mid bass speakers and reshaped the rear side panels with fiberglass to blend those enclosures into the side arm rest areas on both sides. It kept me from losing my mind during the covid lockdown.

I completely agree the Silk Dome are the best sounding, I miss them so much but I was killing them at a rate of a pair every 3 months and it was getting too expensive so I now run 3 inch compression drivers which sound so harsh but seriously loud and are rated for 100w rms and its been 3 years so far without a failure. That should be black there's too many mounting holes for that to look ok for that price u can also tell the 2nd pair needs more power than u had them hooked up to the third pair looks much better with only 4 holes for mounting looks good quaility but for that price cicada and many other brands best that price and I believe the new Sony mobile es are some of the best sounding mids and highs on the market right now. Talking about the lower end ones, I still don't think they take out my low-cost favorite the Alpine type s. As you move up, they get better but they still kind of have a similar tone. Just better detail and a little less obnoxious. Using your voice for a reference. 3ways def best of bunch but...dynaudio esotan 6.5 set is 329. I like the guy from Robot underground and he is honest about things like speakers and amplifiers.. He speaks some truths about the industry and a lot of things are way overpriced for the quality delivered.. With speakers i always try to balance between price to performance, with most of us we’re not going to the lengths that we are going to dampen the whole interior and panels of a car till perfection so we don’t need the “ultra high end” stuff.. Plus when you invest in a great headunit (chinese with optical out) and good amplifiers you can get away with somewhat cheaper speakers and if you want to upgrade in the future..

Lol, I hope someone doesn’t mind beaming between the midrange and tweeter on that 3-way set. Not gonna look too great on an RTA. The tweeter doesn’t go low enough for that 3” cone of the midrange. Ideally, you’d want to do the midrange to tweeter crossover no higher than 2,250Hz, but can get away with 3,000Hz. Going up to 5kHz would make those mids beam like crazy. The mid-bass to midrange should also be a lot lower than 750Hz, but the woofer won’t be beaming too badly there. 315Hz between mid-bass and midrange and then 2.25kHz would be best for midrange to tweeter, but it doesn’t sound like those are capable of that. Definitely an SPL-oriented 3-way set instead of an SQ set as they look to be marketed. As for tweeter material, I do agree that a silk dome sounds the best and most natural. Most hard dome tweeters are just too harsh.

Silk for sure 👍 the smoothest tweets. For demos have to go Titanium, helps to balance out heavy bass 🔊 just my thoughts 🤔 😀

Aluminum dome tweeters are not bad, you just have to use the attenuation on the crossover or install the off axis if you think they are too harsh, soft dome are much smoother and suitable for on axis mount, I'm yet to try the beryllium dome tweeters but i heard they are the best sounding ones.

I tried them and they kinda sound like a mix if the 2. Less harsh but not like silk dome either.

I liked the JX coaxial the best. At least for my ears. I just don’t get why the music genre/type used in the VAST majority of speaker test or review videos is some version of hip hop or rap. I need to know how it sounds with the types of music I listen to……like country, rock, and metal. Stuff like that. Overall nice video though.

Honestly, I really couldn't tell the difference between any one of these speakers. I played it on my headphones. My phone even in my car speakers and everything sounded the exact same. I don't know if it was like that just from you or for anyone else

Speakers look great, and they seem to sound good. The logos on everything make them look cheap. Nothing against D4S at all. But imagine how great they would look in a high end custom install just plain. Like in an A Pillar install. Way better with no logos. Plus you never wanna have the logos because from some angles the speakers will look crooked. The tweeter for example will always look crooked. Would look way better with no logo. Just put it on the back....

I like the “Phenolic” material used on the Selenium ST-200 tweeters. But then again I’m more of an SPL guy than SQ so the silk may be more “musical”.

Personally i tend to gravitate toward AMT tweeters. Particularly fond of Adam Audio studio monitors, and Emotiva home speakers for this very reason. Not much going on in car audio with AMT tweeters as i suspect they are less forgiving with placement which would impact the overall imaging.

well, they look like some fisher price gee whiz BS crap, so my guess is no, they dont sound as "good" as they look. I also dont think anyone involved in Car "audio" would know good sound if it slapped them in the face.

Aren't you and DFS going to have a drawing and be doing give-aways on things like this? Dude if they won't help you promote yourself then you are not being respected as a creator. We know you don't need speakers but some of us could or could use the smile. Thank you for listening.

Why not use a car audio amplifier to test speakers? Seems like you’d want to pair them with car audio equipment and temporarily install them into a car to get a real review. Not bashing just saying. The off axis response might make them sound totally different.

It would be interesting to investigate why speaker manufacturers don't seem to produce products with higher efficiency so less powerful amps can easily drive them, like 89db is not really very good imho

I personally would like to see the 6.5 woofer in the three way component to be treated as an infinite baffle dual two ohm so it would draw more of the current to produce more mid bass. And I do prefer soft dome tweets.
