When we shot the demo movie, the floppy disk wasn't working well and we couldn't load the preset data, so Mr Ujiie shot while operating from the initial voice. If the floppy can be repaired, we would like to try shooting again.

Maybe the M will sound as good as or even better than the Wave - but it doesn‘t look 10% as impressive as this monster. I love these vintage UIs with lots of knobs and sliders.

Very kind of Katsunori to hop back in his time machine, and grab one of these brand new in 1993 just to play/demo this masterpiece for our benefit. And damn, I would love to visit that museum. Thanks for featuring this one. Cheers!

I remember demoing one in my local music shop when they first came out. Considered selling the car outside till i realised the car wouldnt cover it lol. Brilliant machine. Eventually got a micro q and still got it today and im still driving.
Waldorf Wave!! It has been the synth of my dreams ever since I have seen a picture of it the first time. For now however the only thing I have is the PPG 3.V VST. In any case it sounds also great :) The new Waldorf M also looks really nice!
Waldorf THE WAVE(1993年 定価120万) これも憧れでしたねー 見た目からしてまさにモンスターシンセで圧倒されます

What a fabulous machine. I'd see these at the NAMM Show in Anaheim in the 90s, didn't get to play one. I've owned or played most of the greatest poly synths, but this one eluded me (I did own a Microwave 1 for a few years though).

Deep Forest's Eric Mouquet used the Wave all over the EVO DEVO album released in 2016. Check out the Sonicstate interview where Eric is live in his studio giving an overview of his synths.
Yes, Waldorf Wave was in itself a PPG wave with a renewed and more accessible panel, they could not develop the firmware for the sequencer due to lack of funding, because in 1993 one of these cost 6000 dollars and no one bought them due to the great weight and size it is and how expensive it was. They accumulated many debts with the lending bank and almost disappeared as a brand. They tried with several digital models such as micro Q, Q, The cheapest model ever created with improved capabilities of all of the above. Waldorf Wave had a less powerful DSP than digital ones like Waldorf Q and Waldorf Blofeld. Waldorf really always had a bad reputation for developing firmware with corrected problems and that was a problem in all Waldorf synthesizers. The only analogue is Waldorf Pulse and Pulse 2. Waldorf blofeld improved Waldorf Wave's aliasing reduction with wave tables inherited from Wave. It is the only one that surpasses all the Waldorfs in the catalog in polyphony in 2024, with a maximum of 25 polophony voices and 16 multi parts and a polyphonic arpeggiator that is used as a step sequencer with tricks. All Waldorf synthesizers are of good build quality. Waldorf Blofeld is the most customizable and apart from having 2 wavetable and sample oscillators, it has 3 VA oscillators and 2 powerful filters. It is the only Waldorf that can accumulate 2 12 db PPG filters, the rest do not have it, Blofeld also has a graphic display like a Waldorf wave. My dream was always to have some emulator or digital version that was close to Waldorf Wave, and Blofeld was my dream come true, a white 49-key keyboard and an endless machine for subtractive and additive synthesis sound design, full of tricks for the more musical and experimental sound. Waldorf Wave is the king of wavetable synthesizers, it only has 2 wavetable oscillators, which makes it exclusive to this type of synthesis, it does not have samples or VA-type subtractive oscillators, it has no effects, but it is a hybrid which sounds awesome for 8 voices and 8 multi parts. Its size is large because it has 8 analog amplifier and filter plates that make the 8 voices of polyphony. With the machine you have to be very careful with the limits, some things can cause a sound to run out of polyphony, due to the short capacity for unison with 8 notes and what the envelopes and additional parameters consume. Waldorf Wave also hangs like Blofeld, but these machines are wonderful to have, blofeld can be used with a digital Wave. In all Waldorf synthesizers, DSP resources are consumed in the same way, many think that Blofeld is left without voices because it is poorly designed, but it is nothing more than a photocopy of the Waldorf Q microQ microwave XT/XTK, blofeld is the way more profitable to access Waldorf technology. Thank you for this awesome video.

The user interface on the Wave is incredible, but the mw1 rev.a actually sounds better, with it's CEM 3389 filter. Theyre not exactly cheap, but maybe 20x cheaper than a Wave.
