I genuinely think one win against a semi decent team would completely change this Wales team. It’s all confidence and then believing and trusting in the game plan. It just needs that one victory and the fortunes will change

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast just when I look back at the year of Welsh rugby there’s been loads of games we could have won but because of the teams lack of experience we let them slip. Just like last week there is enough quality to win, but the pressure on the team is enormous, Jac Dewi and Anscombe must not allow heads to drop when things go wrong, they must stay switched on, this is without a doubt a game we cannot lose for the sake of our game, we are 11th in the rankings and if our mindset is wrong where will our next win come from, getting rid of Gatland won't fix the problem, and Ex players slating Gatland and the team is disgraceful, the same players who made their name under his leadership, this is our strongest side we can put out, and I'm backing it.

After supporting Gatland last week I'm now going to lay in to him. He obviously hasn't learned a thing from last Sunday. Got caught with his pants down selecting a 6-2 bench against Fiji with a scrum half and outside half as the replacements. Costelow ended up on the wing because we didn't have any wing cover. Gone with a 5-3 bench this week with a scrum half, outside half and inside centre as the replacements. Still no wing cover despite already having two outside halves in the starting XV - Anscombe and B Thomas - and Murray on the wing who has played outside half in NZ. If one of our wingers goes down we're screwed again. Costelow either needs to start (not my choice) or be jettisoned with either Hathaway or Dyer on the bench.

I think there's an excellent player to be made in Costellow in the future but Gatland is doing no favours for him at all by constantly sticking with him while he's getting a ton of stick off the public and that will further continue to shatter his confidence. Priestland and Cuthbert are fine examples of great players that were shot of confidence by the vicious abuse they received as they were used as scapegoats. Overall I expect us to lose by 15 points. I cant see the Aussies being over-confident and our backline is even more lightweight and inexperienced than it was against Fiji. One positive is that I am excited to see Eddie James in action, the lad is an absolute unit and we could do with a few more like him 😅 James at 12 and Page at 13 could be hell of a centre combination for Wales in the future (if they're developed properly) 🙃

I completely agree with you about Costelow. The stick he’s been getting is not right he’s having a rough time, but he’s got some ability and I think he could be helped by pulling him out of the limelight for a little bit. Either way we have Welsh fans need to just give the guy a break

Because Adam Beard contributes so much to Wales that he is willing to take the risk with him. Also, most rugby play on a fine line of being caught cheating and getting away with it. Giving away penalties is part of that but sometimes it’s worth the risk

Is Tomos Williams really a loss? I don’t think so. He is one dimensional and doesn’t scan both sides of the ruck just passes to where he can see the most players. His box kicking is quite good but that’s about it as far as I am concerned. It’s a pity Gareth Davies has retired because at least he was sharp around the fringes.

AUS starting favorites, as you say. We’re going to need to play out of our skins, solid set-piece BOTH halves, strong running from the backs to create those overlaps. And defensively, mmm, Aussies will be fancying their chances against our wings. Fingers Xed, I just don’t want us to lose by letting in soft tries and them running rings around our backs, and it looking like we can’t function as a team the week before we play the world champions

Great Review. I was pleased bothom got in ive heard he is a scrappy Defense guy i like that for this team. He came in at 6 like you said he would. but idk about tom rodgers, idk enough about him, i like hathaway, him and llewellyn remind me of a good american college wide recievers tall, fast body type, agile and muscular enough. i think the premiership guys see a little more consistant tough play than URC. i would select him. But again idk anything about rugby lol. Seems like alot of small players in the team. blair murray and winnett. Costelow, I would like hathaway in there as a bigger guy replacement for grady. But of course im not at welsh practice maybe he isnt as good with warren ball or whatever the heck his schemes are. Another podcast i listened too they interviewed an aussie journalist and he said aussies havent won 2 games in a row very often past few years. To quote Dumb and Dumber: so your saying theres a chance??? I think if they do 2 things they win: 1: fix the penalties on the driving maul to score a couple tries. 2. Gameplan to get ball wide to make a few of those amazing winger tries like blair/bevan did and the winnet one that should have counted if not for bonehead reffell. They get down to the damn try line too often and come away with nothing. Ive given up on defense being perfect, too small of guys so have to run up the score IMO.

Sorry to be a constant pessimist but, I don’t see this going well. Australia’s attacking play against England was excellent and they have some tremendous carriers like Bell and Valetini. Im not convinced by this squad. Rogers on the wing is very inconsistent... Glad Plumtree has been dropped.... Would of picked Rodri Williams over Bevan to start coz Bevan is definitely better when defence is tired and a little slower to close down. Better at sniping in the the spaces left . Hopefully we have a better showing than last week but i still dont see us beating Australia but we will see.

As with the last 10 or so team sheets, this is a bit ‘meh’ for me. You could pick any combination of players from the squad and I would have the same reaction. I feel like we just don’t have any world class guys in the squad right now (maybe Dewi Lake), so I don’t feel like any of the changes made positively or negatively affect the quality of the team. I’m glad he’s stuck with Ben & max in the centres. They could be great together. Rowlands and Beard are a very uninspiring lock partnership. Both extremely slow and offer little outside of the set piece. I would like to say Wales to win but my gut instinct prediction with the Fiji was spot on so I’m going to say Australia by 11
@TheWelshSportsPodcast7 күн бұрын
Yeah there wasn’t really a lot he could do. The pptential for loosing all 5 games in 6 nations is very real and if that happens i just cant even begin to imagine what that will mean for the future of welsh rugby ... what it does highlight is that our complete structure from grass roots all the way to regional rugby is a catastrophic failure for player development..
