I think that at S.O.P a sunday noontime show...jaya and regine still unmarried and lani still on the same network GMA7 FEW years ago... Filipino singers putting them in a duets is very unique...and well admired by audiences...the goodness of the pinoy singers esp. Power vocals they give and take in their parts , noone dominate the song and veteran singers mentor's new generation singers...professional singers also undergo vocal coaches as part of their rehearsals and practices before actual blocking and actual performances....

During the 80's-90's Regine pretty much ruled the asian music scene as Lani worked the Las Vegas casino market and Jaya (with her mom Elizabeth) the US concert circuit for the Filipino community. There was no heirarchy, there was no fandom war drama, no politics, they built their own fiefdoms and each respected everyone else. Ahhh, the good ol' days of analog music 😊

This was like an impromptu, they practiced this once on the same day they performed this. They know each other so well that If I may say, they don't need like the usual practice. Imagine if they did practiced this like a normal practice, where you run them few times for a couple of days or sometimes months if it's for a concert. The piano man, Raul Mitra, is Regine's brother-in-law. Btw, her sister Cacai(wife of Raul) is also a good singer, she is famous too but she settled for a more private life with her family and now Regine's manager.

There were even times Jaya sold more than Regine esp her debut album which sold 8x platinum and 2nd album, 4x platinum. Lani got bigger than Jaya when the latter did not able to sustain her bankability as a recorded artist and Lani made it more hit concerts which was produced by Crossover in Araneta. Then big names in concert had Lani collaborated with them which Jaya failed in comparison.

@@dbreakingnutz932 People were crazy for Jaya when she first came out because she was so different. But I don't think there were times when she sold more than Regine. Even Lani and Jaya combined couldn't come close to Regine's popularity. Having said that, Jaya is still was bigger than Lani. Lani's "bankability" was only fueled by being part The Trinity, riding of Regine and Jaya. She didn't have more hits, and her biggest songs are not even as popular and as iconic Jaya's least famous hit. And not even one album of Lani made it to the top 45 best-selling albums in the Philippines while Jaya at least have 2. By certain standards, we can say that Lani is a bit of a flop.

Its hilarious that you are contradicting yourself saying Regine isn’t good at belting and then adding “she is only good at belting and the other two can do other things” you wack gurl? If i am being honest Lani, belting is the weakest as she tend to mix heady and can’t even balance mix in upper 5th octave i only say the are even in belting as she has the most developed head voice, while Jaya tends to shrill out up there, Regine maintain cohesiveness along her various registers. She has the best control as she is able to execute complex runs, melisma, riffs and the most agile, she also has the very rare technique of diminuendo and hit notes almost perfect pitch most of the time, able to pick up specific note out of nowhere with innate accuracy, while Lani is more pitchy most of the time Jaya is flat out out of tune lmfao do you even know what are you talking about? 🤣

We all know regine can sing for decades. What she was saying is that Lani sounds the most like Whitney and I agree as Lani started her career as a multiplex singer and has started her career as vocal impersonator of Whitney and they really sound alike, it was only after lani was an established singer that she would change a note here and there to find her own identity. So for a song popularized by Whitney, lani stands out the most. If this is a celine dion song, regine would stand out as regine's timbre, power belting and thwang fits perfectly for celine dion songs.

The original artist of this song "Greatest Love of All" is George Benson. But it was Whitney Houston who made the song a big hit.

You really should watch Lani, Jonah and Darren sing arias and the Phantom of the Opera!. When you hear Lani singing something completely operatic, you'll know that this is nothing to her :)

The pianist is Raul Mitra, Regine's brother-in-law, married to her younger sister, Cacai Velazquez. And yes, I watched it live and YES, they were legends already during that time. When the likes of KZ, Morisette, Sarah and Katrina were probably just little girls, or haven't even been conceived yet, these three powerhouse belters (and Lea Salonga, of course!) have been blessing us with their amazing vocal talents!

11:13 Interesting point. I didn't notice that but it's true. Most Pinoy 'transformed' when singing and one of the factor is when we sing, the pronunciation becomes different from how we usually talk. That's all thanks to karaoke/videoke. As you know, most of us don't have the luxury to have a vocal coach or study in music school, so what we do is try to play with our voices to sing ot sound close enough to the original.
