Efra is right, here in PH when you have any sorts of talent your classmates and teachers will always push you to perform, they are automatically the class representative for that specific talent, actually this kind of culture reflects what our elderlies are usually doing to us since we were kids. When there's guest, a family reunion, a gathering they will always push you to perform no matter how little your talent is, they will encourage you to do it in front of people.

You are so right. Students are blessed to have those supports from their classmates and their teachers to share their talents in front of the class. Another thing about class in the Philippines, for example, I used to be a public school Math teacher in the Philippines and my students loved singing the songs that I changed the lyrics into Math's terminologies. I would choose the popular songs chorus that kids grew up with and it was fun and amazing to hear kids singing in unison in Math class. ❤️ They remember our lessons that way. ❤️

@5:46 that song "isang linggong pag-ibig" can be literally translated to "one week love story" it's a song by the jukebox queen of the phils. imelda papin, in that song, it's being elaborated that on monday - they got acquainted, on tuesday - they see each other again, on wednesday, he declared his love to her, on thursday - she gave her sweetest "yes" to him, on friday they got laid and they felt that they're in paradise and they can even heard the tweeting of the birds, but on saturday they've got a misunderstanding that leads on sunday the he left her (just like that!). hope this could help enlighten you guys about the song she's singing.

Music and performing arts in general is encouraged in the Philippines. At home, at school, even in the streets... People don't get insulted and judged when they try to show their love for singing and dancing. There will be some teasing & discouragements from those with high standards but majority of the people will be so much encouraging and supportive.

Since you guys talks about supportive teachers here in the Philippines, I wanted to share my experience. This happened in my college years, I think around 3rd year of engineering. So I have this one major subject that I am always got late coz my prior subject was too far away and I have to f*ckn run and hope that my professor was not yet in the room. So basically, every time that you are late. you have to perform anything (singing, reciting poem, any talent) as a "punishment". Take note this is a major engineering subject not a humanities or minor subjects. The whole class was cool about it even though some (yes, there are small percentage of Filipinos that are tone deaf and I am part of that small fraction) are not that talented ahaha.

Your point about schools in the Philippines encouraging students on their singing is absolutely correct. Because there are a ton of Catholic schools in the Philippines, we are all taught about Church songs (we have a Music subject) and we are encouraged to join choirs for church singing. There are also Glee Clubs to join. I remember when I was in high school, our English teacher was such a huge music fan. She asked us all to sing and bring our minus-one to sing in class. It's bizarre to think of it now because it's so unrelated to her subject. I was known for always singing in class but I was shy in front of a crowd and this pushed me to sing publicly. Afterwards she would always include me in school activities and events where I and some of my classmates would perform.

Most of the videos you reacted is inside the classroom which is not unusual here in the Philippines. LOL. Kids here started learning music even before they were born. Before they enter kindergaten, kids can already sing alot of nursery rhymes. Kindergarten teachers don't just teach nursery rhymes. They also teach kids folk songs of different dialects here in the Philippines including Chavacano (Which is close to Spanish). When kids enter 1st grade, they were taught about basic stuffs in music including parts of a music sheet, different notes etc. When kids reach 4th grade, they will be taught how to read a musical score and then they'll try to sing it in acapella. In 5th grade, we'll learn how to play at least one musical instrument and teachers loves to randomly call a student to lead the beat of a selected folk song. They just love impromptu that much. In 6th grade, selected students (mostly, girls) leads the beat for the National Anthem every Monday morning. Teachers here in the Philippines actually uses music so students will stay awake in class (And sometimes to wake up a sleeping student. LOL.) Music is used here in the Philippines so students can memorize academic lessons easily such as steps in solving an equation or memorizing anatomy. That's how we were at school. But nonetheless, music is a vital part of Filipino's lives. We can't live a day without music. (Either we listen to songs or we sing a song)

In every filipino family there's always 1 or 2 singers. If lucky, all the family members are singers. It's part of our culture and now it's definitely in our DNA I think.. If you're good at singing and dancing in PH, then you'll most likely to be the representative of the class for any literary and musical competition. Also at school, teachers uses singing as a form of "punishment". Best example, if you're late in the class. You have to sing. Even at my workplace. If a trainee is late, they will have to sing. If there's a new team member, they also have to sing. Even if you're tone deaf, you still have to sing. Basically, we just keep on singing until we get the right tune. Best time to sing in PH, when you're doing the dishes, when you're cooking, when you're washing your clothes, when you're babysitting and in the shower. But i think nothing beats singing at the classroom.

Schools Programs here in the philippines (like Foundation Day, Nutrition Month, Buwan ng Wika, even in Christmas Parties and many more) always have a competition, between levels in singing, dancing, arts, cooking(nutrition month). So if you have talents you will be 1 of the representative of your level to compete and sometimes even if you don't have talent and need more representative like in group competition you really need to join you also get additional points in your grades. 🥰🥰 that's also a way to train filipino kids to come up to stage and be confident on their talents.

Part of our break time we jam and sing. Missing that now in pandemic.
