This arrangement is *suicidal,* and the fact that Morissette always slays it is a testament to her greatness as a vocalist. Everyone knows how difficult this arrangement is, because every single time, we are on pins and needles, with mouths gaped in awe every time Mori enters the second chorus, because everyone knows that the intensity of the arrangement ratchets up even higher from that point. Usually, the bridge is where the singer gets a chance to take a small breather, but not with Morissette's arrangement, no! She has to maintain the intensity and then, drive the intensity up another notch during the climactic key change, and then maintain that level of intensity for minutes until the very end. And mind you, from the second verse onwards, Morissette is using M1 chest voice coordination, with a lot of core and power, which makes it even more difficult to do! For comparison, in Sheryn Regis' original arrangement, there are places designed for Sheryn to take breathers, and she uses an aspirated head voice coordination for the high notes during the bridge, which is much easier to do and gives her time to reset for the climax. Meanwhile, in Mori's arrangement, she is hitting those same high notes with M1 chest voice coordination, with a lot of core, starting here: 10:04. That is far more difficult and fatiguing! On top of that, Mori is adding tons of compression and vocal distortion (vocal fry, vocal breaks, growl onsets), which adds another layer of difficulty. Hands down, Morissette's take on this song is on a completely different level, making it, arguably, the most difficult song to sing in OPM history.
@JoeyAndamo2 жыл бұрын
Another thing I would like to point out: What makes Morissette's vocal performances even more mesmerising is the *TONAL QUALITY* of her voice. It has that natural clarity and rich harmonics that you find in *special* singers. It's *never shrill* or piercing, even when she's attacking hard on the really high notes. She has that 'surround sound' quality resonance, and I think it's mostly because she developed a really good "open throat" technique that maximizes the resonating space of her vocal anatomy. Just listen to the quality of her tone. It's not like the others. And then, when she adds all these different *colours* and *textures* to her tone, the heavens open up.

While listening to the singing of Morissette, I was watching the facial expressions of Walesca. She was literally agonizing over the emotions emitting from the vocals of Mori ... it is like, both Walesca and Morissette were living the story line and lyrics of the song. That is how emotional the song was?!

She's definitely sick here and you can tell that she's tired. From her vlog she mentioned that she was under that steroid treatment or something. But regardless of the vocal issues, she still delivered this performance so well and slayed the song with another touch. And I agree, something about this version is so emotional. The key change part still hits the spot. The emotions is still there.
@elvinordinan21752 жыл бұрын
Wether sick or not, whatever the excuse, she's exceptional. She don't need to hit it as what she has done from her first cover of the song. It is understandable that the song is suicide but he slayed it with her first cover and that's enough. If she is not in good health then she's amazing, more amazing, cause she even pull it out with her best.

Since Efra loves the word "sisiw", let me teach you that: If you say "SISIW LANG YAN" -when someone challenges you to do something, it's like you're low-key bragging that the challenge is too easy for you OR -when you challenge yourself to do something, it's like encouraging yourself that it's going to be easy. Hello, Waleska and Efra! Great reaction and analysis from both of you, especially Waleska. 👍👍 I like these genuine reactions and commentaries, coming from such performers and artists as yourselves. Like you, I also have the chills and goosebumps all throughout this Morissette performing "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" live on the Wish Bus. We all know how ridiculously difficult this song is, the arrangement demands a lot from the singer, especially the prolonged belting parts. And we also know, by watching Mori's vlog released days before, that she was not at her 100% condition when this Wish Bus rendition was done due to her hectic schedule and many prior singing engagements, tv guestings, etc. (she is one of the most "in-demand" artists in the Philippines nowadays). So putting these two factors together -- difficult song with less than 100% condition of the voice and the body -- we were a bit worried for Mori, how is she gonna pull this through? And then Wish Bus released this and we have now watched it. And we are just left in awe at this incredible talent and stamina! There is no hint of fatigue on her. She just slayed again this song, with such intensity and power. She was performing at 100%! I can just agree with what Waleska mentioned, that there are times when you see an exhausted performer, that's when you get see the best performances from him or her, because that's when the performer just gives us everything she's got. It may be true in this case. Mori knows she is not at her best at the moment, so she gave it all what she's got, made the smart adjustments and gave it a different "attack" towards the end, and it still came out beautiful!💖 This Wish Bus version of GKNB is definitely one of the best performances of Mori, and it has become instantly one of our favorites! ❤
