no you don't go to a specific person to sing for them, this is different from serenade. Christmas caroling is when you visit multiple houses and sing in exchange for money. This is supposed to be a cute tradition, kids often do this and they get money in return. kinda like how you do trick or treat in halloween but you'll sing christmas songs and since Filipinos are so extra, they make it like tawag ng tanghalan grand finals lol.

Iba po kasi ang caroling sa western its more on chorale with instruments parang marching bands ganern. Di po nila yan matatawag na caroling kahit xmas song kinakanta nya. Since karaoke yang dala dala nya. Its more on a serenade side
@jen89328 ай бұрын
True. It is so cute when kids, especially, the small ones, singing Christmas songs. You're right it like trick or treat for kids- instead of wearing costumes, they will sing and adults will give them "aguinaldo" (coins or bills) after a few songs. Teenagers and adults get higher aguinaldo because they can sing really, really well. Sometimes, one of them play the guitar. Filipinos are so extra, so true. Kids used to have improvised tambourine and improvised drums.

Harana means serenade 😊 but this one we call caroling …it’s when you go to different houses and sing Christmas carols
@americanlifeko66928 ай бұрын
Thats carolling in a highest level. The owner of the house should give him a fair amount of money according to his talent. 😁😁😁

While a lot of people love the high notes, I like those simple and solemn way singing but so heartfelt that the Christmas songs will really touch your heart. Hehehe! That's my preference. I admire and applaud their vocal prowess though...it's good for concerts.
@marksy39448 ай бұрын
Yes. In the Philippines, most people think hitting high notes is a criteria for being a good singer. Regardless of how it sounds. It just has to be high. Even the caterwauling kind is praised. Tsk tsk tsk.

😊At the beginning of Simbang Gabi / Misa de Gallo is when Filipinos form groups and go from house to house singing Christmas carols for the residents. This is known as "caroling".

Harana is serenade. You can sing any song or olay any music you like in a serenade. Of course you should select the appropriate one to the purpose but the point is you are not restricted to a type of music. Kundiman is a type of music that are traditionally written for the purpose of showing your love. You can say it's genre. It has certain rules like tempo, how the song is contructed, and the language used. In that sense, someone can choose to sing kundiman in a harana if they want. Traditionally, that was what was sang iby older generations.

you sing for the whole neighborhood house to house collecting change 🤣 it's called caroling during the near weeks of Christmas day. and usually we don't bring speakers, traditionally we make bottle caps and DIY it to be rattlers a can of milk can make it to a DIY somewhat like drums, and if they don't give us change 🤣 because the new year is near we always have piccolo or a small fire cracker and throw it at the house and rus fast as fck and laugh. I miss my childhood. 🤣

It's caroling which people in the West are familiar with. As a kid, we used to make our own instruments, an empty can covered with plastic (drum), flattened coke caps string together on a piece of wire then we'd go from house to house to sing (or now that I'm older 'irritate' might be the correct word) and hope that people will give us coins. Choirs do this, too and you're duty bound to give them paper bills. Or the single guy with his own amplifier (a newer concept). It's tradition. Hotels hire choirs to sing carols, too.

That was Mariah Carey’s version that she sang, Morisette Amon also sang this live with whistle and I think it’s “cleaner” than Lika’s rendition 3:47

CHRISTMAS CAROLING IN PHILLIPINES IS THE HAPPIEST TIME …. You can sing at any random house you choose and the house owner will come out to give money … not throw money …. it’s part of sharing during christmas season ..: for some organisations that want funding and on their projects the need to secure license from police or government agency .. that is for staying out late at night and a formal letter is sent to the house address you intend on to do sing Christmas carols and the house owner can get ready of the amount to share to them and sometimes get ready and of light snacks to the group after singing Christmas carols

Here in the Philippines be like: christmas carolling - is done before or after christmas Harana- done when a guy usually courting a girl (old style) new style just chat or text her 🤣🤣🤣 Mañanita- is to sing to someone closed to you on her/his birthday (usually done at the dawn) Take note you should bring coffee and bread since you are unexpected guest 🤣
