Walk around the Palace of Westminster + Westminster Abbey | London Walking Tour

In this video, Sinead, a guide with Free Tours by Foot, explores the area around the Palace of Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. MORE LONDON VIDEOS - • Walking around London .
We begin our walk from Lambeth Bridge where we will take in some views of the Thames, including the headquarters of MI5 and MI6 before taking walk through the Victoria Tower Gardens to see the Buxton Memorial among others.
Next, we take a walk on Milbank alongside the Palace of Westminster and a little hidden gem called the Jewel Tower.
Then, we will take a walk around St. Margaret's Church and Westminster Abbey before ending at Parliament Square where we will see the likes of Sir Winston Churchill in bronze and where we will get a glimpse of Big Ben, albeit under scaffolding.
There's a lot to see, so let's start walking!

Great tour, from a fine guide. The Abbey is wonderful to see, I took a guided tour in '84 and went inside Westminster Cathedral, and a couple hours' later also went inside St. Paul's. In '17 I was nearby but that tour concentrated on Buckingham palace, which I did not see in '84. I stayed at the Kensington Hilton in '84 and the Thistle Euston, a quainter hotel, in '17. Both hotels were a short walk from the Underground but I did not use it, because in both cases I was in London during the height of the crowded tourist season. I did not know the band Queen, which first hit fame when I entered high school in the 70's, played atop Buckingham palace. "Somebody to Love" was my favorite Queen song, also sung at the end of the movie "Happy Feet" by the late Brittany Murphy. I have loved Britain's influence on music I have heard since I first saw the Beatles perform on Ed Sullivan in the 60's. The last British artist I have seen live, was Peter White, the instrumental smooth jazz guitarist known for his work with Al Stewart (Year of the Cat). The most influential British artist I've seen live was Phil Collins near San Francisco in '90, also seeing the Bee Gees at the same outdoor venue (Shoreline Mountain View) in '89 during their One tour. Britain's music is the beat I have always felt during my two visits to London, more than three decades apart.

Just a little snippet of info re 'slavery'. It did not begin with trade out of Africa but goes way back to the time of the Vikings when they bought or took slaves from the Slavic countries of Eastern Europe - the word 'slave' is derived from 'slavic' ('slaves' from Czechoslovakia and Poland mainly).

Every country has agencies, departments, etc that "watch" it's citizenry. Some like the UKs MI-5, Canada's RCMP, Italy's AISI, Spain's GEO, Russia under several, et al make no effort to deny it or employ subterfuge to obscure it. Others are less forthcoming. But everyone does it. These videos are not only entertaining, they're educational ! I've learned more about Great Britain, and London from watching these. First Rate !

James Bond, in the classic 1962 Ian Fleming Parody "Alligator" by the Harvard Lampoon, is introduced sitting at the downstairs bar of St. Stephen's. He drinks the first and only parody of a cocktail he named the "Annagram". (just don't use the 1 cup of sugar as in the recipe in the book, but just a cube). He proceeds to guzzle down 4 doubles and smoke a pack of cigarettes in a minute. A very fun read. Ian Fleming tried to sue the authors.
