Walk around Tove Ditlevsen's Vesterbro

I was gifted The Copenhagen Trilogy by Tove Ditlevsen* as a thank you gift a few weeks ago and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I found the references to the Vesterbro area of Copenhagen particularly fascinating and decided to make a video showing the key places Tove mentions in the first book, Childhood.
If you have not read the book I can really recommend it. The full English translated trilogy was was published by Penguin Random House in 2021. I also enjoyed Tove's other translated book, The Faces, which was also published in 2021.

I have always loved Tove Ditlevsen, and how cool is it that they translated her books!! I grew up in Birkerød, where she lived for some years in the 50's. But it was only about ten years ago I was told that she lived there and its soooo closed to my mums house! Kinda cool :)

Delighted you enjoyed it. I did try and include some places mentioned in the latter two books but she is less clear about those locations. If you haven’t read it I can really recommend her book Faces as well. It is semi autobiographical and you can see parallels between the last book in the trilogy. It’s also available in English.

I watched this video ( as well as others of yours) last week. I was so curious I jumped on Amazon and purchased the book. Thank you so much! I found it to be captivating reading and was able to create vivid images in my mind.I agree the the translation of Part 3 is not as enjoyable, but still fascinating - yet tragic. Now, I want to learn even more about Tove. I am visiting Copenhagen and Northern Jutland in June. I find preparation for a trip to be half the fun of it! I plan to retrace your steps to see the area.
