I met him long ago and followed him in the seventies. A perfect gentleman with a powerful game. I saw four of his matches physically / live. On his day he even defeated Rod Laver. Was unlucky once or twice at Wimbledon and also not playing the Davis Cup final against South Africa after beating Australia in Calcutta. Indira Gandhi stopped the team. A major support of Vijay was his elder brother Anand. India would have won the Davis Cup I think. He was really unlucky.

I am proud of Mr. Vijay Amritraj - He is among the world’s ever greatest three IMHO.. i.e Rod Laver & Björn Borg. Luck was simply not in his favor!!
