Totally agree with the slip Leeds the harness has its plase with the harness you can attach the dog in the car to a seat belt clip I also us one when walking road side it's frulesant helps on them early morning walks

It's great with the dog helping you climb a hill. She can act as a brake going down, utilizing the front ring!

Do you have tips on how to use slip lead similarly effective when walking with two dogs? My two pups have contrasting interests when walking; the lab wants to pace and run (with me) while the border collie mix wants to scent every inch of the trail. Whe walking individually, the slip lead works perfectly. But when walking them together, I had to resort to medium lead and harnessess.

Is there a particular slip lead you would recommend? We have a 21 week old Working Cocker and amidst his glory he also still requires a lot of work. We haven’t had much luck with loose lead walking yet and having watched your videos I feel it would potentially be a good option. Thank you.

The only time I use a harness is for safety when my dogs travelling in the car.

A slip lead without stopper (is that what it is called?) is prohibited in some countries as the choking action is considered cruel. What type of leash do you recommend in such places?

Not sure I agree about halti been bad. We found a halti was the only tool we could control our huge Newfie with UNTIL we trained to walk properly. She just ignored the slip. Nb. She walks beautifully completely loose lead.

The trouble with Halti head controllers is just that, they control your dogs head. Your dog learns nothing, its a shortcut and a fairly short term one at that. Invest a few pounds in a slip lead, watch Charlie and enjoy walking your dog to heel.

Whatever you use, you still have to teach your dog to walk with a loose lead. Harness is no different. My dog likes it and I’ve taught her to walk with loose lead. Slip lead was more problematic when she didn’t know how to loose lead walk.

We tried a regular collar and then a slip lead for our 5 month old standard poodle, but it was the harness (y-shaped) that finally worked and most of the time he walks with a loose lead. I also use the front d-ring instead of the ring on the back. I admit it was the slip lead that helped him to engage with us, but we had such a difficult time getting a consistently correct fit (high up on neck) and when he did pull, he'd choke on it. But I don't see you using it high on the neck.

Slip leads aren't supposed to choke, he goes lower on the neck to give a loose collar and always corrects with a downward motion to apply pressure on the top of the neck to correct the dog, this means the dog is not choked and doesn't damage its trachea etc.

Totally disagree with your thoughts on harnesses, I have a large Kangal and I mostly use a light harness on him instead of a collar, which leaves his neck free which I prefer. I do agree with the fact that huskies etc use them for pulling but if you train your dog not to pull then there is no issue. Unfortunately some owners use harnesses on dogs without training their dogs first, then can’t understand why their dog is pulling them all over the place.

I think you may have missed the point a little. If you have a well trained dog that wants to be around you when you remove the slip lead, you don't need a retractable one.
